What Duke said about the scoring of that round I could actually see what he meant. Jim Watt puts is more articulate with his phrasing "I score the round for Froch, but can see the Judges giving it to Kessler" is how he would say it. There was only the one time, a real bad off night for him, when he actually scored the fight as he anticipated the judge would - and that was for Lynes vs Branco - sadly, he got it right also.
The most infurating was John Rawlings "from a British perspective and from a Danish perspective"..... talk about bias. He was giving 3 judges point of view.... 1) Danish judge 2) His viewpoint 3) If it was in Britain.
We don't need any more advertising that there is national/home town bias in boxing. He should have just stuck to his own. Why at all was he being influenced. It was kind of like the Dirrell situation - Rawling went for Dirrell as did Thaxton but when the decision was announced it was "well no surprise, its in the UK that what Dirrell deserved".
And then Duke said something like "this will not be controvesial no matter who wins" - this was at the start of the 9th round... now at the time I'd only given Froch 1 round, and I doubt ANYONE had Froch leading at this stage. I think Duke meant - if Kessler wins its not a home town decision, but then why say "no matter who wins".
I think Duke had a stinker last night. For a former pro his insight was completely lacking and he continued to make nonsensical judgements and observations.
Ward completely dominated Kessler yet Duke said Calzaghe was the only one who had:witzend:

In fact, I was a bit disappointed with Andy Kerr as well last night, he was clearly rooting for Froch and even to the point of trying to sell that slip in round 5 as a knockdown. Poor Darren Barker dropped his head during the post-fight analysis and his voice started to quiver, I thought the fella was about to burst into tears!

The whole Primetime production is cheap as chips.
Angree with Andy Kerr and Darren Barker being poor, they were much better when they had Steve Bunce and Jim Rosenthal respectively to bounce off.
Yes I agree. I think Kerr found Barker to be hard work. Normally a very good analysis when on ITV - Barker seemed really disinterested and bored throughout. There was no chemistry there, Kerr is a good presenter normally. I hope he called it a KD to try and spark something from Barker.
Barker hardly answered Big Mark's questions - Big Mark was looking for "differences" but Barker just gave him very general answers. The only time he seemed to be enthusiastic was when Kerr told him that Schmichael was the interviewer.
Yep poor all round on the commentary front, as soon as I put it on and it was Duke and Rawling I knew I was in for a tough nights listening.
The difference I find is when Sky commentate omn something they commentate as if talking to boxing fans and as if the viewing audience understands what is going in (which is a wise move).
When Rawling and Duke commentate it is as if they are trying to dumb it down for people who have never watched boxing in their life, might have worked on ITV lads but Primetime on PPV isn't gona get many casuals is it.
Duke and Rawling were awful, Kerr in the studio was ok, you could tell he was pining for his mate Buncey to add some life into proceedings. Barker was dire, sitting on the fence all night, why did they bring someone in who is so close to Froch, could tell he was scared to give a proper opinion for fear of offending people he trains with. They desperately needed Bunce in the studio and some decent commentators.
Duke McKenzie gets on my tits, EVERY time. Terrible commentator.

Yes, I could not believe I was hearing this. He said he thought Froch won the session but scored it even because they were in Denmark. Outrageous. It shouldn't matter if you're boxing on the bloody moon - this is simply giving credence to other people's supposed bias!
I suppose if you were being charitable, you could argue that the roars of the crowd influence the judges, but duke should just concentrate on his own card, not what he thinks the judges might do.
Nice to see that tillerman is still as bent as a banana on a roundabout.
How long are they going to keep inflicting the hapless Duke on the long suffering British boxing fans? Enough is enough, he's been given a million chances to improve.
As Duke might put it - "let's get it right, he's a top commentator, but on the other foot, he's useless in every possible way, John"
