To me a "shot" fighter is somebody who no longer has the dedication, confidence and determination which you need to succeed, none of which Kessler seemed to be missing on saturday.

Mike Tyson v Kevin McBride is the perfect example of a "shot" fighter IMO, a pathetic, passionless display against a man who he would have wiped the floor with in his prime.
To me its someone, whether it be psychological or physical, cannot do the things he used to in his prime.

Physically it might be all be there (or might not be) but somehow the fighter doesn't apply it.

Maybe thats too harsh, cause then you could say Ali post his excile (pre Frazier, Foreman etc) was shot and I am one who often says "oh so and so is being written off too soon".When really who I call "properly" shot is like Michael Ayers vs Jon Honney, Michael Brodie since his return, Ali vs Holmes etc.

However, I don't think Kessler is the fighter he once was. Irrespective of it being arguably his greatest win. The speed wasn't what it was, the balance wasn't what it was. I have the feeling his relying too much on weights in his training.

It's such a shame that the Kessler fight came right after the loss to Ward. Obviously it might've meant a more confident Kessler in there, but I think it went the other way. I think Froch faced a hungrier, better prepared, fiercer version of Kessler than he'd have been facing had he fought Kessler ahead of Ward.

Right now, I think it was a fantastic performance against a cornered, formerly outstanding fighter who came in with a profile that didn't quite match form and circumstance. I think casual fans will see highlights on news shows and dismiss it as 'Carl lost...' without appreciating what a back n'forth action fight it really was. It was the sort of fight where neither guy really deserved to lose, but people won't get that because it was hidden away on some obscure cable channel.

I can't claim to have any positive belief in Hennessey, by all accounts he's a decent guy who has come through for Froch late in his career, but I can't get away from the fact that Froch should've been a superstar by now. Super 6 should've been on Sky Sports, with fights featuring non-brits on regular channels, Froch fights PPV. Not going to get into my problems with Hennessy because Froch is still in play but he could go down as one of the most over-achieving and under-appreaciated fighters ever to fight for this country.

hard to know what to say about Hennessey really on ethe one hand i feel like he was at one point the only promoter that could poissibly have rivalled Warren with the strength in depth in his stable. I know that he made a fair bit from his ITV shows and from the super 6. The problem is he has been frozen out Froch Barker Murray Witter Fury he has the talent to stage big shows. just not the television anymore. If he doesnt make a move and fast he will lose all his stable he has enough money i think so thats not a problem just he may end up losing all his boxers

Froch has been showcased live on BBC1,ITV1,Sky Sports 1 and now Primetime. He won a title in a FOTY,scored destructive ko's on the first three i mentioned and has now lost his title in a potential FOTY.Meaty Mick must have seriously pissed someone off if he cant get him decent T.V.

I knew Meaty Mick for the first 2 years he was a promoter - if he thought you were being a **** he would tell you so and didnt give a toss whether you were the "tea boy" or a TV executive - the problem is I think there must have been many occasions when Mick was being forthright with the TV Execs he was completely right - however even when he was right I suppose the criticism I have of Mick was that he didnt treat anyone with kid gloves and I suppose you have to with these TV men. I can distinctly remember a couple of occasions the Boxing man at the BBC being on the end of some tongue lashings from Mick and deservedly so - the problem is it didnt do Mick any favours.

Just one more thing on Froch and Hennessy Sports - the key in all this is Robert McCracken - telling you now his loyalties are with Hennessy.

If Froch ditches Hennessy which I cant see happening - I honestly believe he will also have to find a new trainer - which magnifies everything why I dont see a split happening although I ackowledge the he jungle drums are beating - even the bloke at my corner shop is getting in on the act!!! :TU:

What is Mick's background anyway is he a business guy or a boxing guy. He was able to sign Froch who was a top prospect ahead of Warren and maloney etc. How was he able to do this as a rookie???
