Good response. I am at the point where I will just roll my eyes too. I know that there can be some bad officials, but the answer is to become an official yourself and/or recruit others to become officials. It is not easy to convice people to do it though. Try that sales pitch out on a friend or even better try it out on a stranger - hey, how would you like to be a VOLUNTEER for USA Boxing and be a judge for amateur boxing? You don't get paid, you will spend a lot of time and money going to shows for very little reward. You will have people yelling at you, accusing you of cheating and sometimes even threatening you (or worse). By the way, you have to pay $80.00 (Michigan Association's membership fee for non-athletes) for the privilege of doing so. Are you ready to sign up?

How many people do you think will say yes to such a great offer?

The above is the reason we need to try to make our officials better as it is difficult to find replacements.
I agree with everything you said. I was also at the fight as to why the topic starter posted this and it was not even close to being a robbery. I'm just tired over the years you see a lot of things and one of the things that gets on my nerves the most is when a fighter and/or his people cry robbery every time that fighter loses. I'm sure you've met people like that.

Please tell us how USA Boxing is marketing him long or short term. What a bunch of BS.
Explain his total bullshit decisions over Darryl Hayes and Aaron James.

That sounds like a local problem which has nothing to do with what you say is USA Boxing wanting to market him.

When a defending champ fights a newcomer, or better, when a fighter with national experience fights someone from a local gym which has many members present... the judges do their best to score the bout red vs. blue, while the fans are obviously scoring it David vs. Goliath, and have a much lesser standard for scoring for the underdog. So, if the lesser known fighter shows some life and makes it a close fight, even if they are clearly losing, even if ever so slightly, the fans in attendence will tend to scream robbery and expect a reward just for good efforts..
Just IMO.

i agree that darryl hayes really beat fowler but that has nothing to do with usa boxing trying to "market him" that was on the local level you're just trying to shout conspiracy when there is none

Most spectators don't know the scoring criteria for amateur boxing or how it's applied. Like - slaps honestly don't count. :witzend:

I have to say many coaches don't know scoring criteria. I've heard many coaches tell kids body punches don't count, or say they won the round because of a standing 8 or they don't even know timekeeper ("stop" stops clock) rules. Sometimes I feel like i'm an instructor than a referee.

Another thing. Some of the clinic instrutors need to be better.

Coaches, and boxers, should read and know the rule book, attend official's clinics, and ask questions. I know I would rather explain a rule/foul/etc. than have a coach/boxer remain ignorant. It amazes me the number of people who think a standing 8 in amateur boxing is a two-point deduction. Sigh.

Oh, so, true! There is nothing worse than a clinician who doesn't know the material and/or doesn't have good presentation skills.
