Larry Holmes – 50-50 fight going down to the wire similar to Holmes-Spoon

Mike Tyson – I know recently many predicted an early night for Mike but I think it’s just as likely that Jimmy gets him on points in a close decision. Either outcome is the same for me. Another 50-50

Lennox Lewis – Jimmy doesn’t have the power to make Lewis wary but he can stop his jab and frustrate him. Another 50-50, maybe the edge to Lewis.

Wlad Klitschko – I think this is the kind of fight Wlad would do well in. I think it’s close. Probably edge towards Wlad.

Roy Jones Jr. – Jimmy would win by late stoppage or very comfortable decision.

Floyd Patterson – I give Jimmy the edge here. I think this is a decision or late stoppage.

Evander Holyfield – Holyfield wins this one by close but clear decision.

Jimmy Ellis – Edge to Jimmy. This one goes the distance but it’s close.

Joe Frazier – Frazier by decision or late KO/TKO

The results largely depend on how much amphetamine Jimmy has snorted beforehand.

I didn't know he was a substance abuser.

Unfortunately, it helped to derail what was shaping up into a fine career.

I would agree with these, except I'd slightly favor Lewis, I'd favor Young over Wlad, and I think I'd take Patterson by decision.

I assume you meant Young in the Ellis/Young matchup.

Frazier would hunt Jimmy Young down and destroy him. Late rounds would not be needed.

Yeah, but Frazier would also hunt down & destroy Foreman, in your book

Anyway, Young was a stylish & classy fighter, with a good deal of tricks up his sleeve, but he gives ground in both style matching & overall class to Frazier. Frazier TKO11 Young, IMO.

Yeah, in some other books at BR as well.

And to repeat myself, I give prime Joe a VIABLE chance to ultimately turn '73 GF into a slobbering side of beef.
(as GI looks on and wails. :OhYes: )

Of course, that assumes a CLEAN fight, with Frazier at fighting weight.

I can't do much but agree with this. Young would not have had the constitution to survive this, the only reason Ali survived and even Joe insinuated it, as did Norton and Foreman, that hitting Ali was tantamount to hitting an Anvil. He was made of tougher stuff than most. It was half of his winning formula.

One of the first boxers I ever coached had a drinking problem but he was tough. I stopped training him. Jimmy Young moved into his neighborhood and they became friends and he became one of Jimmy's main sparring partners’ towards the end of his career in the early 80's. The guy told me that everyday after they trained at Fraziers gym, they would stop at bars on the way home and get hammered. Jimmy may have been into the drugs by then as well but the boxer never told me about it, just the drinking.
