I would worry about training for the Nationals first and then the Olympic trials qualifiers, then the Trials. A lot of boxers say that they are training for the Olympics, but I don't know what they mean. Once you have won the Olympic Trials, you are training for the Olympics. Well, even then you are at first training for the Olympic Qualifiers and then the Olympics.

So the kid in the video, is he even ranked nationally? Has he competed in any national tournaments? He obviously is sparring a more novice sparring partner which doesn't prove a thing.

Many, if not most, USA Olympians win the national tournaments in the first or second year of the Olympic cycle and then stay at or near the top until the Olympics.

Thanks Jeff. It is good to know someone agrees with me. :OhYes:
Good luck at the GG as I read about the kid from N.M. who wants a piece of Louie. As I often say, be careful what you wish for.

OLYMPICS?Not the 2012 team,he needs to work on his game,he looks like a 20-30 fight amateur,And the guy he's sparring with looks REALLY green.First put him in a big tournament and see how he does before worrying about the olympics!

He went to the 2009 National PAL. He lost to Luis Arias. If that's who I think it is.

There is no shame in losing to Luis Arias, but he is just one of a handful of top guys who this kid would have to be able to defeat just to win the USA Olympic Trials. He would then have to win or place high enough at an Olympic Qualifier to qualify for the Olympics.

My guess is that he didn't do that well against Luis Arias and won't be close to defeating him anytime soon.

I tend to side with the two coaches plus I do not think that the international scoring system would be generous to the way that he is boxing in the clip. Best Wishes!

He doesn't look like he may be able to make the 2012 team YET.. but there is always 2016, and plus it's good to aim high regardless of what anyone on here says. Best wishes don't let anyone bring you down keep working hard because the Olympic spot isn't guaranteed for anyone. Just ask all those people who told Deontay Wilder he would'nt get pass regionals, but he went on to make the '08 Olympic team and do better in it then all of the other U.S. Olympians. Even if your not "nationally ranked" you still can still work towards it one step at a time. Main thing is to stay focused and keep working towards it. If you don't make the Olympic team its not the end of the world.. just ask Judah, Mosely, Pacquiao..

Best wishes, and work on moving more and keeping your hands up. :bag:

His style is more suited for the pros than for the international style of boxing. For the Olympics... he needs to work on speed, high tempo pace, and don't spend a lot of time fighting inside. He may do very well in the pros with more experience and polishing but the amateurs is almost a different sport in regards to styles.

As grantboxing said... there's more to boxing than the Olympics!

There is some potential there, but he definatly needs more work. He needs to watch out when he is on the inside because he does a little to much pushing with his forearms and elbows. I've seen points get taken and boxers get DQ'D for that
