Both Duddy and JCS are far from overrated, over mentioned is more like it. They probably receive a lot more attention and money than other fighters with their ability get, but they are not terrible fighters. Like you said, pretty much everyone thinks they are jokes that pose no serious threat to any top fighter.

This will probably be a very good fight.
I resent that!!

you can resent their popularity which is embarrassing but fair enough - but you are also allowing that to cloud your judgement of them as boxers.

here is two questions that I ask people who say that (they dont usually answer!)

A. Who over-rates Duddy?

B. Who hypes Duddy?

I read that comment everywhere so it should be an easy answer!
A. Nobody that I know of, most are knowledgeable about his limitations.

B. His fans and the media, same with any other boxer or indeed any other sportsman/woman.

right so people DONT over rate him - so you would agree that he isnt over rated? Yes, No?

His fans over rate him? do they? Do they really? I dont think they do - I am a Duddy fanwhat hype have I or any other duddy fan said about it.

Its probably time to put this "over rated hyped" bullshít to bed because its just that - bullshít and its factually incorrect!

Over popular? Maybe! Over hyped? I dont think so! Over rated? Definately not.

explain "hyped" - if by "hyped" do you mean "promoted" - there is a big difference in my opinion - both fighters have massive followings - following over and above that of fighters of a similar talent but I would saying "hyping" is that they are a sure fired Hall of Famer or world champion!

Are their own promotional companies not supposed to say anything postive about them for fear of being labelled as being hyped?

Thats a crazy attitude.

They are both mediocre pugilists, but I would expect Chavez Jr. to win as he is a little bit better.

Slap - would you not agree that you're rather over-sensitive when it comes to Irish boxers being criticised/observed upon?

Duddy has been hyped - big deal. He's not very good, is he?

Hardly the first and won't be the last.

You've obviously got previous with Asterix --which I don't frankly care about one way or the other-- but you need to re-read that entire set of nested posts, realise that someone misspelled JCCjr as "JCS", realise that the poster of that name popped up & made a joke about how the sentence read with their name inserted, realise that you missed that & took imaginary offence, realise that doing that makes you look like a twat, realise that Asterix was just pointing that out to you, realise that the way you reacted to Asterix pointing that out made yourself look a complete fvcking twat, & also realise that you can brook no criticism whatsoever, no matter how general or specific --or indeed however justified-- where Duddy's concerned, & then realise that that, also, makes you look like a twat.

Also, as I have explained all this to you, I hope you realise why no-one could be bothered to point all this out to you.

oversensitive! moi? why sir what ever do you mean!?

The thing is I completely disagree that he has been hyped anymore than any other fighter - the facts simply do not bare it out. If there has been so much hyping simply point to an example.

Like I have said - the guy is more popular than fighters of a similar level of talent than he but as we all know its not just talent that sells tickets - however its not because of hype. Irish-America have simply bought into him, he is a hit there because of his looks, attitude, fighting style and ethnicity - a lot more of a hit over there then he is in Ireland actually.

This is what I mean - would you agree that Irish-American fighters have a lot of pressure/hype simply because they are Irish-American? In fact, probably more than any other group I know (other than white Yankee heavyweights, probably...oh, and don't mention white Irish-American heavyweights!).

Ass-tricks is a childish arsehole thats been handed the smallest modicum of power and let it go to his pea size head and now follows me around like a 9 month old follows his mothers tit.

As for missing JCS's "in joke" - I simply mistook what the joke was about if that makes me the biggest twat on this forum then I accept that accolade with gratitude kind sir. :TU:

no they support him - not hype him. There is a difference. All the ones I have met are quite open and honest about his performance and capabilities and that actually makes them support him more.

I wouldnt be a massive Duddy fan to be honest but I have enjoy most of his fights and his fights over there are more of an "occasion" as opposed to being just and "fight" but I genuinely havent seen many people hyping him.

people will probably just see this as Irish backing up the Irish but I agree.
Duddy is not overrated, half the people out there on forums call him a bum, and the vast majority of the rest who are more respectful say he's not very good and fought no one.

He's not overhyped either, there is no actual hype on John Duddy, that's just a great fabrication.
Duddy is very popular however, and as such receives a hell of a lot of media attention for a fighter of his quality. But this attention does not come in the form of anyone professing he's going to be the next great Irish fighter, that'll he'll beat Pavlik/Martinez etc. Usually it just tells us things about John, his opponents and his position within boxing in a realistic manner.

If people want to call Duddy over popular that's fine by me, while I think he deserves his popularity due to his crowd pleasing fights and warming personality, some may see his pugilistic skills as not good enough to receive such support.

But overrated, and overhyped ?, well If that's anyone's opinion of Duddy they're probably a bit of a sheep and going with the flock, because it really isn't the case.

Two of the most protected fighters in the business get it on next month when New York-based Irishman John Duddy faces Mexico’s Julio Cesar Chavez Junior at the Alamodome in San Antonio (June 26).
Duddy, a 30-year-old with an uncanny ability to put bums on seats, was finally exposed last year when someone called Billy Lyell outscored him over 10 rounds in Newark, taking away his unbeaten record. Middleweight Duddy, 29-1 (18), has been brought back with three obscure wins, presumably in front of big, adoring crowds, but there is no evidence to suggest that he has what it takes to break into world class. On the one hand he is brave, aggressive and biffs a bit but the other palm reads too slow, too easy to hit and too quick to bleed. He required 25 stitches after one fight.
Chavez remains unbeaten at 41-0-1 (30) but turned pro way too young at 17 and was held to an early draw by fellow countryman Carlos Molina in Monterrey in 2005, after which he dropped down a level. Even then a part-time gas station attendant by the name of Matt Vanda – a man Duddy has beaten – should haver got the nod over him in 2008 in Mexico but was plainly robbed. Chavez took on Vanda again and proved he was the better fighter with a unanimous 10-round decision; Chavez also took on Molina again, by the way, and outscored him. At 24 the son of a great, great fighter needs to be tested, to be stepped up, to make his move – and this isn’t it.
Nevertheless, Chavez goes quite well to the body and looks to be developing a man’s strength, at last. He simply looks too young and mobile for the aggressive Duddy.

it's an elim for martinez's middleweight title (WBC)!

easy payday for martinez and he can have it for the middleweight title. he deserves one after hard luck and 2 bigger opponents (williams and pavlik).

dibella seems keen to match martinez with angulo, but angulo's promoter apparently wants no part of it. i think dibella wants a TV date that will allow martinez to show off his skills vs a tough/limited type. angulo having fought on HBO a number of times. i'd prefer martinez to fight the duddy-chavez jr winner as he'll be defending the middleweight crown, rather than the (relatively) meaningless light middleweight one.
