No,it didnt look fair on paper.I think Matchroom fancied a Herbie victory with three highlight reel KO's to build him up on Sky a bit.taffytoon wrote:Sorry but Herbie SHOULD NOT have entered, he may have won but it has done him no favours. He could not put Brooks away and was caught a few times. Tony Bellew stopped Wayne and Wayne was much fitter then. Herbie thought he could walk through this easily and was proven very wrong.mickey1975 wrote:But he didnt lose, did he?It is actually the most sense i have heard Herbie speak in over 20 years of watching interviews with him.Autobarn wrote:so herbie pulled out after winning a fight in which he was cut. to protect his world title fight?
surely if he was having a world title fight, he'd have had the bugger by now.
if you win prize fighter there's no guarantees that you're going anywhere. for instance the promising martin murray and ryan brawley seem to be well off the radar.
but if you're supposed to be world class, and you don't win it....doesn't look too good, does it?
Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
I fancy seeing Hide v either Nortan or Francis on a Friday night. But with the WBC belt being vacent I could see him v either Enzo or Afolabi for it arround World Cup time.
Edit; Ola would have to pick up an easy win pretty soon though, as he wouldn't be able to fight for a vacent title coming off a loss.

Exactly, it makes perfect sense, and some people here just want to be annoyed because Herbie refused to entertain them by jeapordising his world title fight by a cut.rhino222 wrote:if herbie had fought on, and got stopped on a cut in his next fight, the defeat would have been registered and hide would have lost his world ranking....simple.
REMEMBER, Herbie Hide was easily outboxing Kaulikaskous in 2004, got headbutted, and they stopped the fight and he got a LTKO4 on his record to a journeyman. Shocking rules system.
Don't blame Hide one bit.
Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
I agree. He was always going to pull out after that. Theres no pleasing some people. I'm sure all these disapointed fans would have jumped at the chance of fighting an Irish brawler and an undefeated prospect with a huge cut above their eye if they'd have been Hide.overhand_right wrote:Exactly, it makes perfect sense, and some people here just want to be annoyed because Herbie refused to entertain them by jeapordising his world title fight by a cut.rhino222 wrote:if herbie had fought on, and got stopped on a cut in his next fight, the defeat would have been registered and hide would have lost his world ranking....simple.

Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
cant blame herbie at all.
but the bill was seriously damaged as a result of him leaving.
if anything should be looked at its how they fill some of the places.
i love prizefighter and also Mark krence but i wouldnt have got a ticket without herbie in it. simply wasnt worth it for 35 quid.
and thats the first of the heavier prizefighters that ive said that about

Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
Incidentally, I saw Wayne Brooks fight in the flesh a while back, bottom of a Howard Eastman undercard, me and my mate walked into a DESERTED York Hall, totally empty, and Brooks boxed Simon Wood, knocked him out badly in 1 round. The fella looked gone for a long time afterwards.
Because me and my mate seemed the only people in there, and up close at ringside, the silence and the sound of the punches was really jarring, and Woods went down with a real bang. I didn't know where to put my face, felt guilty for watching! Weird. He looked useful, but very soft so I didn't thunk he'd go that far since he couldn't get into proper nick.

I told people Wayne was tough, The kid has the same size balls as King Kong himself!!! He can hit a bit too!! He'll cause anyone problems especially over 3 rounds, He was in good shape when I boxed him, Nice kid too!! I hope he does well in the future..
We should all be honest here, Everybody that bought tickets for that last nigh (bar the fighters friends) only done so to watch Herbie Hide knock guys senseless, Only thing is, Herbie is not what he used to be, He will always be blessed with that punch BUT his reflexes are going and it's only a matter of time till someone gets to him, He was blowing after 2 mins in there with Brookes!! I feel Wayne deserves massive credit..
I also think JLD boxed great, What he lacks in 1 punch power he more than makes up for with workrate and skill!! He's a good addition to the cruiserweights!! I firmly believe he'd have outboxed Hide, When I seen the draw I knew he'd get the final BUT was weary of Hide's power against him.. After watching Herbie though I was sure Dickinson would beat him...
I personally don't like the prizefighter format BUT it get's the general public watching again so Im happy with that, I always have people asking me why ain't you in prizefighter, I always say cos I wanna fight for titles and they always say yeah but you'd be prizefighter champion..I just say yeah your right in the end, It has it's good points and it's bad points to be fair, Good luck to the lads in it last night though I hope they go on to do good things and also Leon Williams definitley impressed me too!!

Re: prizefighter
I agree with you, not a good prizefighter and an all round let down. Good on the lad who won it tho, he done all he could I guess.
For Corbett not to beat some one the pedigree of Okoth, what a joke, Corbett looked very heavy.

Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
Wanna try and win everything I possibly can at lightheavy then when my team think it's right we'll move up and move up the right way too mate.. I don't just wanna move up for the sake of moving up and I also want my time at lightheavy to mean something, I think you'll see a different fighter again when I do finally move up in weight..Cotto16 wrote: tony your huge for lightheavyweight, are you going top move up to cruserweight any time soon?

"Hell Yeah Baby.."
The move up in weight is inevitable mate BUT like I said it also effects my fighting style, When Im heavier you'll possibly see an even more dangerous 1 punch fighter... Well I'd like to think so anyway mate..

If you read the post I was referring to his fight in 2006 and my impression of him then, so this new picture isn't relevant. I'd put a rolling eyes emoticon here now but I'm not a teenager so won't bother.taffytoon wrote:Yeh I can see what you meanoverhand_right wrote:Incidentally, I saw Wayne Brooks fight in the flesh a while back, bottom of a Howard Eastman undercard, me and my mate walked into a DESERTED York Hall, totally empty, and Brooks boxed Simon Wood, knocked him out badly in 1 round. are the other fights going to be on youtube?
Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
You made a statement that he could not get in proper nick after a fight in December 2006, The picture posted was taken 1 year later in December 2007. He is clearly in shape thus making your quote a nonsence. Use as many emotiicon you like.overhand_right wrote:taffytoon wrote:overhand_right wrote:Incidentally, I saw Wayne Brooks fight in the flesh a while back, bottom of a Howard Eastman undercard, me and my mate walked into a DESERTED York Hall, totally empty, and Brooks boxed Simon Wood, knocked him out badly in 1 round. Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
So I refer to him not being in great shape in december 2006 and you disprove that by using a picture of him from TWELVE MONTHS later? How does that relate to what I said about his december 2006 appearance?
Please explain.
Please explain.

Your quote was that He coulnd not get in shape. The pictures clearly shows he can and did. Surely that explains itself?overhand_right wrote:So I refer to him not being in great shape in december 2006 and you disprove that by using a picture of him from TWELVE MONTHS later? Re: prizefighter cruiserweights tonight
I didn't 'think' he would bother to get into proper shape. Have you ever in your life 'thought' something about a boxer, that turned out to be incorrect? I never gave the man a second thought for over 3 years until I saw him in the ring with Herbie Hide tother night, and he didn't look exactly chiseled in there. In fact he was a stone heavier than the only other time I saw him, and he was soft then, so it's not like I can be blamed for not realising he did get into decent shape one time two years ago. meh.
