British Ring Earnings? Hatton made almost double Calzaghe!!

According to The Times sports rich list published yesterday, 4 Boxers made the 100 richest UK sports star list

Lennox was easily the wealthiest of the boxers with an estimated fortune of £95 million.
Hatton was the second richest on £29 million.
Hamed came in third richest boxer on £ 22 million.
Calzaghe was estimated to be worth £15 million.

Incidentally, Haye was estimated to be worth £5 million.

I wasn't surprised about Lennox and how much he earned but I didn't realise Hatton's wealth compared to his peers!

That is of course if the estimations on the list are anywhere near accurate.

I was also surprised at how far back Haye is, surely considering his achievements so far he must be worth more than that?

These are just an `educated guess`. I certainly don`t see Calzaghe being anywhere that minted.

Calzaghe's wife took quite a lot off him for all the work he put in pre Ashira(?), so he'd have only really started earning from that fight onwards and considering he didn't get full payment for one of his fights(I won't elaborate for obvious reasons), it's not surprising he's lagging behind.

I'd expect Hatton to be worth more in reality, but these are estimates.

Calzahe never had a pay-per-view fight in this country,Hatton had several.The Mayweather fight was an absolute financial blockbuster.Also,Hatton himself is a "brand",his after dinner speaking,an evening with...,etc,will have kept the money flying in in-between fights.If anything,i am suprised he's not further ahead of Joe in earnings

2 World Heavyweight title fights

Mormeck fight earned him around £150,000

Maccarenelli fight earned him around £800,000

Monte Barret fight saw him earn £500,000

Valuev fight saw him earn £1,500,000

Ruiz fight saw him earn £1,200,000

A few commercial deals on top

But after paying taxes and expenses and everyone takes their cut - Haye will do well to clear £5 million.

The guestimate of Hameds wealth seems as over bloated as he is himself ... I`d be very surprised if he was anywhere close to £20million.

Calzaghe may well have assets to £8million .. I would be surprised if he had half that amount in the bank.

Hatton has had a longer high profile career than both the guys mentioned here. The £30million guestimate could well be closer than the others.

As for Haye. He has potential to earn a great deal. Though certainly not as much as Lennox - simply because there aren`t that many big name fights out there. Another reason why he needs to sign for the Klitschko fights asap.

Maybe he did mix with the celebrity circle. I do however find it a little exagerated to believe your view he was as well established in the USA as you say though. He certainly wasn`t bigger than Hatton. Lets not forget Hatton fought the p4p best. And what Hamed earned before deductions is alot different to what he actually banked.

Because I can believe that Calzaghe earned at least £15m in the ring - most of it coming from his Lacey and post Lacey career including two Millennium Stadium fights and £his fights against Jones (Hopkins as well if that hadn't been lost to his ever-honest former promoter). His second fight against Veit was also a million pound purse. Before that, his ring earnings might not have been more about £5m for his entire career combined.

But if he earned £15m to £20m that leaves him with about £12m to £16m after his management fees, £10m to £14m after trainers and expenses, £6m to £8m after the taxman takes his cut. Plus he dropped about £2m to £3m in his divorce. That leaves him with about £4m to £6m. Minus his living expenses over the years plus the money he's earn out of the ring.

£15m looks like a real stretch unless he's earned £5m from Hello over the last year.

Hamed had massive deals with sky box office, hbo and addidas. He had huge ring earnings and invested it in a massive property portfolio that was said to have doubled his wealth.

Hamed arrived as a massive star in the USA, backed by a huge ad campaign by HBO and Addidas. The Ministry of Sound even launched an album off his debut fight with Kelly.
