Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
Simple question, it seems people are getting all upset with Mayweather because he wants proper dope testing, rather than the *wink, wink* testing currently used in boxing, (and it is a TOTAL joke, by the way) so i can only assume that most of you are perfectly happy that boxing is a pretty dirty sport when it comes to performance enhancing drugs.
So do you really care?

Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
It is indeed an absolute disgrace. The thing is, the governing bodies are for the main part an even bigger disgrace so it will be difficult to sort it out - but it really needs doing.
Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
Above all sports, Boxing should be the most stringent when it comes to performance enhancing drugs.
It beggers belief that the various bodies and organisations take it so lightly![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

I reckon they could probably afford to use some of the projected $170 million the Manny - Floyd fight will generate to have proper testing, but no, i forgot, Pacquiao is superstitious about having blood drawn when it doesnt fit in with his steroid cycle, umm, sorry i mean 24 days before a fight....
Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
Considering a man is gonna get punched in the face until perhaps his eyelids burst open... it does seem odd that a tiny little needle is preventing a $40m pay day does it not ?
I'm not saying pac is on anything, but his improvements in the last couple of years have been astonishing.

I'm not really surprised by his improvements as he always had the raw attributes. I am surprised by his improved ability to take a punch but I've never heard of PED's improving your chin!

The highest level of testing should take part in all serious contact sports!! There should also be massive punishments if found taking any kind of PED's too!!! Im all for cleaning up the sport and making it a level playing field.. Just look at the guys who have been caught, There grade A fighters so can you imagine the guys who are not grade A who have been on stuff!! It's scary if you ask me.. :(

pro boxing is a dirty blood buisness where there is no shame in securing wins by using enhancers.

MachoMan09 wrote:Effective doping control costs an absolute fortune. Who is going to want to pick up the bill? Nobody. The governing bodies would rather allow blood doping, hormone usage and steroids to be used carte blanche than dip into their purses to try and tackle it, in my opinion.
The Olympic Games only tests urine. do you really think it should go further than that?

Considering I'm 38yo. and considering a return to the ring, I'm glad that dope testing in boxing is a joke.

I personally don't care if fighters are all jacked up, in fact i prefer it that way. PRIDE, with no testing at all, was far more entertaining than UFC will ever be.

Yes i agree with that 100%, boxing needs to decide whether it wants *wink, wink* rules or real rules.
The fact that people are defending Pacquiao and criticising Mayweather over this issue leads me to believe that a lot of boxing fans prefer the "don't ask, don't tell" option.
Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
I don’t believe that there’s a sport in the world that has proper testing.
The top boxers/athletes will always be able to sit behind a phalanx of lawyers and get away with whatever they’re taking.
Boxing like track and field falls into the category of high use because there’s a massive difference between being number 1 and number 20… 20th best sprinter in the world is an unknown, 20th best MW in the world is unknown (beyond these forums). 20th best tennis player in the world has a great sponsorship deal and travels around the world meeting a variety of exotic ladies. 100th best premiership player (let alone the world) is a multi-millionaire who could bankrupt a small nation…
The rewards for juicing in boxing are just so big. And when it comes to it, if the guy is making money the promoters don’t want to know, the governing bodies don’t want to know and the fans refuse to believe it.
And those who shout the loudest are almost always guilty.

I don't know a thing about dope testing, but i saw a vid on youtube the other day by Bigragu (his boxing vids are well worth a watch) and he said that the total cost of testing Manny and Shane was in the region of $20 000. A small price to pay for those two in that kind of fight, but imagine having to shell out that much for some other smaller title fights.

Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
At least Athletics is trying to do something. A one time positive test means an athlete can't compete in the olympics again - think of all the top athletes who have been banned from the sport, Marion Jones, Dwain Chambers, Justin Gatlin, Ben Johnson etc. etc. Could you imagine the WBC saying that a fighter who tested positive would never be allowed to fight for a WBC belt again? No, they couldn't care less because all they care about is money. Athletics has a bad reputation precisely because they try and do everything to catch the cheats; constantly updating testing methods, re-testing old samples when new tests are available, random off-season tests etc. Boxing on the other hand does bugger all and hence no-one hears about the cheats. Mayweather may have his own reasons but bloody hell its about time this got brought out in the open to try and change the system.Ezzard wrote:I don’t believe that there’s a sport in the world that has proper testing.

Boxing is a complete and utter fornicating joke when it comes to PES's. There is no doubt that some PES's can harm your health - would you want boxers being forced into taking them and endangering themselves, just to be able to compete on a level playing field with the cheats?
What would a boxing commissions position be if the following happened. One boxer on EPO or similar kills a drug free opponent in the later stages of the fight? What if the commission had known about previous allegations or failed drug tests but still not done all they could to test for PES's? Would they have a responsibility for what happened?
Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
Put two brain cells together for a second and you'll figure out its not that Mayweather wants to introduce proper drug testing into the sport that gets people upset, its the timing of his request!Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Simple question, it seems people are getting all upset with Mayweather because he wants proper dope testing, rather than the *wink, wink* testing currently used in boxing, (and it is a TOTAL joke, by the way) so i can only assume that most of you are perfectly happy that boxing is a pretty dirty sport when it comes to performance enhancing drugs.

Easy to see which side of the fence you've choosen to sit on.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:I reckon they could probably afford to use some of the projected $170 million the Manny - Floyd fight will generate to have proper testing, but no, i forgot, Pacquiao is superstitious about having blood drawn when it doesnt fit in with his steroid cycle, umm, sorry i mean 24 days before a fight....
Its a bit hypocritacle to talk down other boxing fans for taking a side in this, Pacquiao's side, as you've clearly taken Mayweather's, and the only thing that makes you right over anyone else is your own egoism!
Re: Do you care that dope testing in boxing is a joke?
I think if it had've been anyone other than Mayweather, there'd have been a much smaller split between fans.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:MachoMan09 wrote:That's a different argument. For example, if someone like Cotto had've insisted on testing, there's a good chance most would've sided with him, there probably would've been much less protest from Pacquiao in turn. Maybe Cotto's a bad example because of the sympathy already there over the Margarito fiasco.
Mayweather's character and motives are a pretty big factor in all of this.
