Im not sure if I understand the question really.
Boxers who won National AAU or Gold medal in Olympics,
but were unable to become a top ten contender as a pro?

breland had a very sad career. he was supposed to be the next sugar ray and fight curry, leonard and hearns.

Sure he lost to starling and theres no shame in that but the loss to aaron davis was wretched in the extreme as he had finally started looking like what people wanted him to.

He got out of boxing low key with a $60,000 a year annuity. Really classy guy well spoken and dressed.

Decent actor as well, but I don't think I'd say that he "didn't make it" in the pros. He may not have lived up to the hype, but he had a very good pro career and beat quite a few world class fighters.

'George Collins'.

Couldnt really say he was a great Amateur, but i remember when he turned pro at the age of 17 there was a big fanfair made about him compiling one of the longest unbeaten records in amateur boxing. He then went on to a long unbeaten run in the pro game, mostly against 'Mexican Roadsweeper types', only to lose when he eventually stepped up to British championship level.

Michael Carruth, '92 Olympic Champion for Ireland was expected to do very well in the pros but it didn't work out for him. Lost a controversial decision against Michael Loewe in Germany and that was the beginning of the end. Ironically, his Irish team mate and Olympic silver medalist, Wayne McCullough went on to do great things in the pro ranks.
