There is a scene in Jack Dempsey's restaraunt before it was closed for good after they moved Madison Square Garden.

Jack Dempsey's resteraunt closed for good on Sunday October.6.1974.
(it originally opened in 1947)
78 year old Dempsey was there with 150 friends on the last day.
It was on Times Square.
He had to close it because the building ,the new landlord ,it was purchased as an investment for the Queen of England,
the rent was raised from $65,000 to $100,000 a year.

Has anyone told you you're an awesome poster? The knowledge you have of this sport is awesome.

Anyway, I hope there is a little more significant answer to Ric's question other than Burt Young being in it and a scene being filmed at Jack Dempsey's restaurant.

Paulie is one of my favorite characters. Remember in Rocky Four when he tells Rocky "I'm glad it's you in there instead of me."

He also was good in "Once Upon A Time In America".

Actually, that's it, Barry. I was clicking thru the TV channels about an hour ago, waiting for "Friday Night Fights" to start on ESPN, when I saw "The Godfather" was being broadcast. As we know, there is that tense scene when Michael Corleone is going to gun down the police chief that broke his jaw as well as the rival mobster. While Michael is waiting on a street corner for the rival mobster to pick him up in a car to go to an Italian restaurant (where the killings will occur), he's standing in front of Dempsey's Restaurant, and you can clearly see the neon "Jack Dempsey's Restaurant" sign above his head as well as a "Manassa Mauler" placard in the restaurant window.

BTW: per his IMDb page, Burt Young was not in this movie.

My bad. I should have said Robert DeNiro was in it.

Naw,I just remember someone mentioning it on another boxing forum a few years ago, then looked up the details at google newspaper archives.
I also remember in Roger Khan's biography of Jack Dempsey, where he mentioned that after they closed it ,a pipe burst and damaged that famous painting of Dempsey-Willard in it.
It would be interesting to know if its still there or even the building today.

DeNiro was in "Godfather II." Not "The Godfather" (the original).

Here's a CBZ discussion about the restaurant and the painting.

The painting now hangs at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

Dempsey opened the restaurant in 1935. He commissioned the painting by James Montgomery Flagg, and unveiled it at the restaurant in 1944

No one seemed to have noticed.

When they picked up Michael in front of Dempsey's Steak House they drove him to Louis Restaurant.

It had its own neon sign in the window: Louis'
