4-1 robbery is kind of rare. Usually those are a split. I'll have video so maybe you can watch it again.

Jerry Odom got a real bad decision 3-2 that should have been 5-0 for him. The one judge had it tied but gave the bout to the other guy for being the effective aggressor but he received two 8 counts in the last rd. It's kind of hard to be the aggressor when you are getting spanked. I thought Kevin Rivers won also but it was closer that Odoms fight. Same thing with Raynell Williams, I didn't get to see each round close except the 3rd round and he was schooling the guy. A lot of the GG officials look really old and since the GG's assigns each franchise a team color. You had guys in the blue corner with red uniforms and guys in the red corner with blue on or two guys with blue but the one in the blue corner wearing a red headgear. I know some of those old judges couldn't keep it straight.

That's a really good point. Really makes the case for bring an all blue and and all red uniform to make it very clear.

DC or anyone..... will you be posting the videos on Youtube or anywhere? I'd like to get a copy of Erick De Leon's fight to show during a recognition event coming up later this month. I'd be happy to pay for it if anyone can help me obtain it.

He'll be at the U.S. Championships this year. Didn't participate in Golden Gloves.

The National Golden Gloves were a lot of fun as usual. The Michigan team had the potential to win a team title, but a tough draw for a few boxers and a few close losses didn't help. My son Niall lost a very close split decision to Ronald Ellis on the first day and Ellis won the tourney. My older son Jordan lost a close split decision in the finals in a bout that many thought he won. It willl provide the additional motivation for training to win the U.S. Championships. The other 3 Michigan boxers who made the semi-finals could have won their bouts. Maybe next year. The Michigan team still finished just a few points out of 3rd place.

As is usual, there were many close bouts including most of the championship bouts. That tough competition is what the USA boxers need if we ever want to be very successful on the international stage. USA has many top athletes, but too many are lazy and/or spoiled and coddled.

Next year, 2011, the tournament will be in Indianapolis, IN and in 2012 it will be in Mesquite, NV. I look forward to both.

Dennis,
Overall, what did you think of the judging? I was only there on Wednesday and I saw several bad decisions.

i enjoyed the tournament. i was really impressed with the younger russell and the allen kid. they competed hard for their ages. amateur boxing has two bright stars in the future with them. i also liked the big shimmel kid and jakabson from chicago, both had good boxing form. i know there were some close draws but that only tells me the competition level was that good. i feel privlidged to have seen all the bouts and big names, i wont forget it for sometime. i know working all week and driving 80 miles to see the bouts everyday has wore me out, i need a break now myself.
