Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Before I would have said Murray very very easily - now I think its a decent fight with Murray winning in an exciting clash.
Mitchell for me has improved big time and I put that down to the brilliant Jimmy Tibbs - who I really cannot understand why more boxers down south do not use.

That's down to Tibbs being very selective as much as it is about people asking him..
Also Mitchell beats Murray but it would be fantastic for as long as it lasted.. I really rate John Murray BUT Mitchell has been tested at a higher level for now.. I think Murray would be at the same level as Kevin now and it would be a 50/50 fight if it wasn't for his promotional outfit not taking care of him!! I mean Pac Man has been more active than Murray

Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Genuine 50-50 match up for me.A definate war probably coming down to who has the best chin.Mitchell has already proved his against Johanneson(who probably hits harder than Murray),while John's has always looked solid but against lesser ooposition.
Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
i was always of the opinion Murray campaigned at a slightly lower weight than Mitchell hence the match up hasn't really been muted much...that I've noticed.
on individual performances Murray has impressed me more.....perhaps he has been boxing against lads he's a level above, whereas Mitchell has mixed it with lads closer to his own class.
I like Mitchell as a character and a fighter, but I really wouldn't write off Murray, I think he's faster out of the blocks and can sustain a workrate.

Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Mitchell wins a split decision.
Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Mitchell seem's to have a bit more about him while Murray seems like a tough grafter who's begun to wither on the vine.
Would've said the same thing about Mitchell, not so long ago, so hopefully Murray starts getting fights that mean something outside of the domestic scene.

mitchell ko middle rounds.
Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
mitchell's clearly going to gte better votes because his promoter is getting him the big fights.
bet the fight never happens, though it's one i've always wanted to see.
everyone seems to think murray will go with hatton. if he does, you know the fight will never happen. because hatton says he can't work with FW.

Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Fella, you've also got to accept that some people will opt for Mitchell simply because they believe he's the better fighter. I'm one of them on the basis that I think Mitchell has the better skills and the bigger punch.Autobarn wrote:mitchell's clearly going to gte better votes because his promoter is getting him the big fights.
Others have already commented comprehensively on Murray's performance on Friday night so I won't elaborate too much here, except to say I still can't see anything in his make-up that suggests anything more than a tough, solid Euro-level campaigner.
I don't think Mitchell is leagues ahead of him, but I do think he's at least one level above Murray.

I think mitchell wins this fight. he punches faster, more punches in his combinations and more importantly doesn't get hit as often.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions - however - i think Autobarn has got it spot on - People can form an opinion on mitchell because of his profile - I concede in Murray and Mitchell's case is because its Mitchell that is being managed and promoted the better - Mitchell's promoter and manager are keeping him in the public eye with high profile fights and in addition public appearances on things like Soccer Am and the publicity in the tabloids - gives the excuse to the average joe public the presumption that Mitchell must be the better fighter because he is in the news more.Deserter wrote:Fella, you've also got to accept that some people will opt for Mitchell simply because they believe he's the better fighter. I remain convinced that whilst the fight if it were ever to happen would be a thriller - Murray for me comes out on top.
Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
sad to say it, but few ppl could see haye and froch going beyond euro level. just because one guy didn't have the best chin and just because one guy kept his guard low. it's been demonstrated time and again that we can't see much further past our own noses, on here.Deserter wrote:Fella, you've also got to accept that some people will opt for Mitchell simply because they believe he's the better fighter. i think murray has a tough fight in front of him in kudriavtsev. kudriavstev is true euro level (check out his recent rematch with antony mezaache if you can find it. a great 12 round war). perhaps murray's performance vs kudriavtsev will demonstrate what level he is at, what level he can aspire for.
Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Disagree. Most of us on here have seen both in action and can judge objectively so the idea that we'd influenced by Mitchell appearing on things like Soccer AM is nonsense.Spud wrote:Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions - however - i think Autobarn has got it spot on - People can form an opinion on mitchell because of his profile - I concede in Murray and Mitchell's case is because its Mitchell that is being managed and promoted the better - Mitchell's promoter and manager are keeping him in the public eye with high profile fights and in addition public appearances on things like Soccer Am and the publicity in the tabloids - gives the excuse to the average joe public the presumption that Mitchell must be the better fighter because he is in the news more.

I don't think Mitchell is the 'second coming', but I'm just genuinely bemused by those who see anything special in Murray.
Spud, out of genuine interest, what makes you think Murray can beat Mitchell?
Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Mitchell for me. Better boxer and ring craft, decent power and speed and a good set of whiskers too.
Murray is very strong, tough and a good operator but he's just too susceptible to being hit for my liking and is a bit too one paced.
Great prospective fight though, lets get it on!

Instinct and just plain old opinion I suppose.Deserter wrote:Spud, out of genuine interest, what makes you think Murray can beat Mitchell?
Whilst I think both fighters have made tremendous improvements in their defence which simply had to happen if they wanted to progress onto the world stage - I still think both will come under severe pressure when and if they fight each other - I think Murray both likes that pressure and thus deals with it better and in addition quite simply out of the 2 Murray seriously likes a good scrap. Under the superb instruction of Jimmy Tibbs it is clear Mitchell will be instructed to try to win any fight like he did against Prescott - furthermore I honestly dont think Murray is anywhere near erratic as Prescott and thus will deal with Mitchell and any pressure he brings to the table.
We come to the power issue - Murray has never been in the sort of trouble Mitchell has been in his fights - the Johannesson fight springs to mind - Murray is a better fighter than Johannsson and if he gets Mitchell in any sort of trouble he wont let the lad off as guttsy as he is.
Overall - I think Murray puts Mitchell under allsorts of pressure for the whole fight for as long as it lasts - to get Murray off Mitchell needs that single conscusive punch power to ward Murray off and I honestly do not believe he has it.
I will be honest with you - if Mitchell beats Katsidis - then my opinion will change massively - that fight is going to be very very interesting indeed. Mitchell will be on the back foot for the whole of that fight - if he isnt then he will play into Katsidis's hands big time and it will be interesting how that fight goes.

Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
i've said it on another thread and i'll repeat. no one else in the UK, or europe, can fight inside like john murray. the man has superb skills up close, with his american style short punching, and looks so relaxed when he goes shoulder to shoulder.
all this about mitchell's class. yes, he was a good amateur. yes, as a pro he stepped up, from commonwealth to domestic, then became a world rated contender. however good his win over prescott is, i feel some of you are basing way too much on 12 rounds in which hardly any shots were thrown. never mind quality shots. the more mitchell moves, the less shots are landed - from both sides. i am optimisitic and exciting about mitchell-katsidis, i hope kevin wins, but i feel we should wait for this fight before rating mitchell, because katsidis has a lot more urgency than prescott.
also, if mitchell was "always levels above", then why was carl johanesson giving him such a terrible beating in the middle rounds of their 130-pound british title classic? mitchell showed a great fighting heart and ground out the win, but there were some scary moments for him. now if he was at such a high level, why didn't he win as easily as, say, leva kirakosyan? kirakosyan is nothing more than euro level (outboxed by gulyakovich) and twice blew johanesson away.

Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
Murray. I don't rate Mitchell. If Johannsen hadn't of gassed out in their clash he would have sailed to a UD or late stoppage - no chance of Carl Johannsen giving Murray anywhere near the problems he gave Mitchell.
Providing Katsidis is not shot, I expect a comfortable KO for the Aussie on Saturday night.
Mitchell's going to get flattened at some point, not a question of if, a question of when.

Re: MITCHELL OR MURRAY............
For all of his admirable qualities I just think Murray will turn up a wee bit short at World level.
I think Mitchell is World Class and will prove that on Saturday.
If Murray and Mitchell were to fight I think Mitchell's extra class would eke out a decision.
But, as Spud and others say we will all be more enlightened after Saturday.
