I'd prefer to answer this after Saturday night. We'll know a lot more about Mitchell then.

Providing Katsidis is not shot, I expect a comfortable KO for the Aussie on Saturday night.
I think you underrate mitchell. he will prove a lot of people wrong on saturday. katsidis will learn very quickly that he is going to be shipping punches to get in close.

i think Johanneson is written off something chronic on this thread. I remember the old BBC days covering him early on. Fair play he'd slowed down a heck of a good bit, even when he was easily winning his Lonsdale belt outright, but getting walloped twice by the same fella on his step up to me does not mean he couldn't have got to that kind of level, if it had just been somebody less harder hitting than LK.
I think Johanneson maybe had a war or 2 too many in sparring. He could have boxed higher in my book, and potentially could have had the beating of Mitchell, putting his excellent domestic achievement to one side for a moment.

of course he's a good fighter. i just used him as an example in the "levels" argument. in which mitchell - who took a frightful mid-fight beating from johanesson - is supposed to be "leagues above" this or that british fighter.

johanesson was in 2 of my fave british title fights, vs michael gomez and then kevin mitchell. he brings that american style (in his case learned in american gyms) that murray also uses. the body punching and the hooks. but murray is much bigger than johanesson and doesn't appear to have his vulnerabilities.

johanesson v buckland would be a great fight.

I tend to agree with Autobarn about Mitchell being 'leagues above' Murray. Mitchell's record isn't that impressive. How many fighters above British level are really on it? Prescott has the big win over Khan, but he's crude as hell, and I'd expect Murray to beat him as well.

Saturday night will obviously tell us a lot more. If Mitchell can come through that, then he's proven himself at a higher level than Murray. For me though, the fight is a 50-50 shot right now.

Fella, you've also got to accept that some people will opt for Mitchell simply because they believe he's the better fighter. I'm one of them on the basis that I think Mitchell has the better skills and the bigger punch.

Others have already commented comprehensively on Murray's performance on Friday night so I won't elaborate too much here, except to say I still can't see anything in his make-up that suggests anything more than a tough, solid Euro-level campaigner.

I don't think Mitchell is leagues ahead of him, but I do think he's at least one level above Murray.
Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions - however - i think Autobarn has got it spot on - People can form an opinion on mitchell because of his profile - I concede in Murray and Mitchell's case is because its Mitchell that is being managed and promoted the better - Mitchell's promoter and manager are keeping him in the public eye with high profile fights and in addition public appearances on things like Soccer Am and the publicity in the tabloids - gives the excuse to the average joe public the presumption that Mitchell must be the better fighter because he is in the news more.

I remain convinced that whilst the fight if it were ever to happen would be a thriller - Murray for me comes out on top.
yes it is important to put things into context (post prescott title elim excitement). the context changes and now probably most ppl think murray would beat him.
