Question when is the british four nations??

Post by bigped »

Is this on BBC 1 again? where is it being held? and do the winners of each weight go on to fight the cuban team?? just that in another thread it said frankie gavin will face kindela ina four nation event, but if its the winners of each weight in britain he wont be facing no one, Mark hastie of scotland will. :D

Frankie Gavin is a lightweight and Hastie a light-welter, thus they won't face each other.
The Scottish lightweight is Gary McArthur and the English light-welter looks to be Jamie Cox.
Gavin is a class act and should come through as the winner of the Four Nations.
I'd imagine Hastie may know a bit too much for young Cox. Either way I can't see any of the Four Nations winners troubling a full strength Cuban team. Our strongest winner would be the James Degale/Andy Lee/Craig McEwan winner.
Having said that, the Cubans probably won't send their full-strength team...

degale is out, heard he had the mumps. I suspect Mullins will given the opportunity to replace him.

The boy boxing at 69kg for scotland Kris Carlaw could be an unkown quatity, get had only had one fight before the scottish finals last week, but he then went on to win 3 bouts and win the title, and he was fighting class opponents, inlcduing willi billan in final who is a 5time scottish champion,

so going into the four nations hes only had 4 boxing bouts, but he claims to be current WORLD kickboxing champion, im going to try and find out more about this if anyone can tell me where id find ifo be good.

Slightly off topic, but i know at least 3 ppl who claim to be european kickboxing chamopins, i think kick boxing is in a worse state than boxing with differnt organisations as such.

I'd still back Cox even though I agree Hastie has the experience and is probably favorite. I think Hastie's upright, orthodox style won't trouble Cox as much as the elusive Mr Grant. As long as Cox can get up for the bout having just lost and being called back in at short notice, I'll back him to win.

Hastie's the reigning (sp?) Four Nations champ and he won the Scottish title at a canter, maybe he's slightly more seasoned, however, you should never write off a power-punching southpaw! :TU:

wouldn't disagree with any of that, as I said Hastie is experienced and will be the favorite, I just feel Cox can handle him, he is strong, confident and very hungry. What can I say, I'm goin to back the new kid on the block.

Thanks for those, maverick. :TU:
The McEwan-Lee bout looks a bit tasty. Hard one to call, would have to side with the Irishman.
Nick McDonald seems unbeatable at the moment – a smashing little fighter. Gary Sykes is also on top form, however, the Edwards bout will be tough, he should come through.
Frankie Gavin is another who goes from strength to strength, the kid is superb and should beat the Welsh lad.
Just as you said, maverick – Cox did the business, fair play to the kid, only 18 years old, he has a bright future.
Brett Flournoy seems to keep proving everyone wrong, he wasn't even the Army no.1 till recently.
Also looking forward to Kevin Evans-David Dolan, rmember Dolan stopping Evans on a nosebleed in the Commonwealth games. :TU:

I agree Ulysses Lee v McEwan is tasty but I too would stick with the Lee to come through. He may not have looked much against Mullins today but I think that's more down to the level of his opponent. Boxing better quality boxers raises your level. 10 England lads in the finals, that's a pretty damn good turn out and out of that I'd say we have a good chance of 8 golds. Cox had a fantastic win over Hastie and if Joyce is the same Joyce that won Gold at 57kg last year against Watson then I see Cox being too strong and too intense for him. I think Flournoy has done exceptionally well since winning the novices and now the abas just a season later but I've been very impressed with the strength, presser and accuracy of Brabazon and I'd go with him on this one. Hard to call though, will be interesting.

Its NOT Lee vs McEwan - The Welsh guy (Phillips who didn't win the WABA's) beat McEwan. If it was Phillips that made the final of the WABA's (losing to O Sullivan) then he is a limited puncher, he floored and hurt O Sullivan in the opener. O Sullivan had a huge gap to close and did so right at the death.

Don't write off Peter Ashton, he was my fighter of the WABA's (it was televised on digital). The Suprise for me was Darren Edwards - a good amateur but light puncher and relentless pressure is the way to beat the lanky Welshman. Thought he would have lost in the semi's. Surely he won't win the final.

Mo Nazzir looked a promising fighter in the WABA's and I thought he might win this thing - so obviously, Ahern must have been pretty impressive and might well go to win it now.

I don't think Kevin Evans will do it, he looked a little bit flabby in the WABA's and it was the poorest I have seen him for a while. For me, an inform Kevin Evans is the best Heavyweight in the country (amateur of course), but he didn't look inform in the WABA's.
