Wasn't that like 3 years ago?

Brinkley has been on a 9 fight winning streak since then.
Yes but have you seen the class of opponent?

He was outboxed by the dire Anthony Bonsante (the one with the emotional, chubby offspring that looked like the cast of Watership Down) on the Contender first series and relied solely on a decent dig to get him out of that scrape.

He's no way deserving of a world title shot, Magee is a far better fighter than Jesse Brinkley.
I think it's a little extreme to say he is a far better opponent. His resume isn't exactly lined with top notch opponents either. For the better part of the last five years he has feasted on domestic competiton and his best win in that period is over an old Larsen, which is admittably a very good win, but that is really the only significant thing he has done beyond a domestic level since fighting Froch.

While Brinkley did get outboxed for a period before knocking out Bonsante in their first fight and looked very bad in their rematch, if you look at Magee's record it indicates that he lost or fought even rounds with domestic novices. He was held to a draw by Oakey, so while I do agree that Magee is the better man, to say he is far better is a stretch in my opinion. Also, the Reid that beat Magee was subsquently flattened by Lacy just two fights later, so I think it's safe to say both men were beaten by a shot Robin Reid. In Brinkley's defense he did not go down four times.

Both fighters are really poor challengers for a fighter looking to make a name for himself as the top SMW in the world. Neither Brinkley, Magee, or Bika (the best of the three) stand a chance against Bute. I would like to see Magee get a shot at Stieglitz. That is a fight he actually has a chance of winning. Otherwise he is just going to be outclassed by a fighter who in reality is much better. However, because a shot at Stieglitz' WBO strap is unlikely and Bute will mean a very big payday, it is still a great oppurtunity for a fighter like Magee.

I agree with most of that. Magee is a better fighter than Brinkley and I feel if they met he would handle the former Contender star quite easily.

That said, Bute would hammer them both.

Just a rumor I heard. :D
You read it in your local newspaper or somewhere on the net in other words.

If you are part of Bute's team or know someone who is then just come out with it.
The potential Demers-Magee title eliminator was in the media, yes.

The part about Magee turning down the fight for another opportunity (Paul Smith) comes from another source.

I expect that fight (Magee-Smith) to be announce soon.
