I plan to remove Dunne in September. Moore left the rankings mostly because of losing his last fight, rather than retiring.

I consider Sprott to be better than Dodson. Sprott is a former top 30 P4P ranked fighter, Dodson has never been close.

Sprott has gone into journeyman mode in the last couple of years.Dodson was coming off a last round FOTY contender loss in which he was leading, for the British title.

Surely he deserves to be there more than Craig Watson? He has won and defended the British title against two very live opponents, is ranked top 5 in EBU and top 20 by at least two of the world bodies, surely has to count for something?

Also a bit strange that Dunne climbs a place despite being retired.

Will Ricky start dropping now that it's nearly a year since his last fight?

Overall, good job and thanks :TU:

Craig Watson has had 3 stoppage wins in his last 3 fight an the last one tuck it on 2 days notice more fighters should be like Watson. Plus also holds a very good win to matthew hatton an was unlucky not to get the dississon against john o donnell !!

All credit to Enzo for his last win but cant see why he is 8 places above Afolabi?
Not only did Ola recently knock Enzo out, subsequent form favours Afolabi, loosing a close decision to arguably world number 1 Huck, surely beats an early stoppage loss to Lebedev and a win over an untested Russian.

Also cant see why Audley is so high? I know Audley is european champion but lets be fair, he was very fortunate to be contesting a vacant title against a fighter who's results continually proved to be below European level. Even domestiacally I'd have Haye, Sexton, Rogan and even Skelton above him.

Hide only beat Wayne Brooks, so I don't think he is likely to enter next month.

I can only move a fighter up the list if they win a fight, so I will have to wait until Afolabi fights again to move him up. It is a bit odd having Maccarinelli so far above Afolabi, but it is a general rule of mine that European champions should be in the top 20 and I thought Maccarinelli should be above Harrison and Cook, so he went even further ahead of Afolabi.

Afolabi was already too low and with Maccarinelli now being so far ahead of him it does look bad. I would say it is the biggest flaw in the rankings at the moment, so hopefully Afolabi fights soon so I can sort it out.

Barker at 14 and Andy Lee not on the list - despite both fighters facing the same fighter in the last bout and Lee battering him and Barker on the wrong end of a battering - says it all.
Lee entered the rankings after beating Belghecham and Barker moved up 8 places after beating him, both fighters were rewarded for beating him.

Barker was already in the rankings so he went higher after beating him than Lee did. Lee wasn't in the rankings when he beat Belghecham so it was unlikely that he would enter the top 20 for beating him. Barker also beat Belghecham over 12 rounds for the European title, whereas Lee beat Belghecham over 10 rounds in a non-title fight.

Lee will probably re-enter the rankings if he beats Mamadou Thiam this month.
slapbangwhallop wrote:Irish guy wins a European title and they might scrap into the top 30 - British guy does and he goes into the top 15. I wont be posting on this load of bollocks again.
McCloskey went up to No.18 in the rankings after he won the European title, he has since fallen a number of places as he has been inactive. In a few months other European champions will fall out of the top 20 if they don't fight again. When McCloskey defends his title in June then he will have a chance to climb a few places.

I do not have an anti-Irish agenda, so why don't you chill out?

White noise!

If anyone can figure out your hypocritical logic across a variety responses then I would be shocked to be honest.

If you think that Mattie Hatton, Audley Harrison and Jamie McDonnell are better P4P fighters than Andy Lee and Paul McCloskey then you are either from another planet or you dont actually watch their fights! :TU:

Murray hasn't fought in a fight scheduled to be over eight rounds yet. He has been beating decent opposition, but I think he probably has to step up to 10 or 12 round fights before I consider giving him a place.

i agree with you on not having some of the mentioned fighters like bellew , hide , gavin etc , but i do feel paul smith should be in there now , not a criticism of you as i like to read this thread , and it does get annoying reading the same things people post month after month , but imo smith has to be in , next time out i think you should get him in there , assuming he wins , i dont know if hes fighting tis month is he ? if not youll get the same barrage from everyone next month .

I think Dodson would probably lose to the same level of opposition that Sprott has been losing against.

The Dodson vs Quigley fight was entertaining, but the best opponent Quigley had beaten before that fight was Nathan King. So, losing to him is probably worse than a lot (or all) of Sprott's recent losses.

Afolabi is too low, but I don't think holding Maccarinelli down because of that helps the rankings.

I generally give a European champion a top 20 place, because of the prestige of the title. If the relatively poor level of European title challengers of recent months does not improve then I will have to re-evaluate my stance on the issue.

Horse,

Sam Sexton fought last November but is now getting pushed down cause of him pulling out of fights with Williams.... Danny pulled out the first time if I am not mistaken, and Sam has a very good reason this time.

Ricky Hatton has not fought in a year, Junior Witter hasn't had a fight in ages - yet in that time Ricky has lost 1 place and Junior Witter went up a position.... thats a bit inconsistent there.

Audley Harrison lost to a fight Sam Sexton has beaten twice.

Audley beat Sprott.... but Sprott lost to Skelton (who lost to Rogan) - so its hardly a great win. There is no-way Audley should be ranked higher than Sexton.

I didn't notice Enzo being ranked higher than Ola also!

And why are you just comparing Sprott with Rassila.... why don't you look at the whole records of the two fighters (Harrison and McCloskey) - one has beaten former EBU champions, former world champions and top ten ranked fighters. Audley avenged against Michael Sprott - who's in his mid 30's and not fought for a long time.

That is a bad rule. Rankings should be based on who a fighter beats, not the title they win. For example, beating a shot Michael Sprott should not move Audley into the 18th position (11 spots ahead of Sexton!?!), even if it was for a belt. If that fight was not for a title would beating Michael Sprott really mean anything? No, because Sprott is finished and is not even a European level fighter at this stage.

If Smith wins his next fight then he is very likely to enter the rankings.

I personally don't think he is currently a stronger candidate for a place in the rankings than Simpson, Sexton or Napa but with another British title level win he probably will be.

McEwan is not too far away from a place on the list, but he has only had one ten round fight. If he continues to step up his opposition and keep winning then he should enter the rankings fairly soon.
hurlock wrote:horse i aint happy with the position on m.hatton & macklin shouldnt be ranked over clev.
When Hatton won the European title I decided to put him above Cook due to Cook's inactivity. This month I decided to put Maccarinelli and Harrison above Cook but below Hatton, as I considered Hatton's European title opponent to be better than their's.

Macklin's best wins are over - Asikainen, Elcock, Ajetovic and Campas.
Cleverly's best wins are over - Brancalion, Fry, McIntosh and Oakey.

I consider Macklin's wins to be a bit better than Cleverly's, so I have him above Cleverly at the moment.

I believe that Sexton has pulled out of the fight twice. It doesn't really matter if there is a good reason or not anyway. He is not fighting so he is going to fall down the rankings until he fights again.
stujones wrote:Ricky Hatton has not fought in a year, Junior Witter hasn't had a fight in ages - yet in that time Ricky has lost 1 place and Junior Witter went up a position.... thats a bit inconsistent there.
Since September (the month after Witter's last fight) Witter has fallen from 7th to 10th. Fighters at the top of the rankings tend to fall down the list slower than those lower down, so neither Hatton or Witter has fallen very far since their last fights.
stujones wrote:Audley Harrison lost to a fight Sam Sexton has beaten twice.

Sexton is now 29th in the rankings, if I had Harrison much lower than Sexton then he wouldn't be in the rankings. I think excluding a European champion from the rankings would be wrong.
stujones wrote:I didn't notice Enzo being ranked higher than Ola also!
It is a bit like the Harrison situation. If I put Maccarinelli below Afolabi then he would be close to the bottom of the rankings and I don't think a reigning European champion should be outside of the top 30.

McCloskey's record is better than Harrison's, but McCloskey hasn't fought this year and his only opposition in 2009 was Rasilla and Dean Harrison.

If McCloskey had fought Rasilla for the European title this month then he would be ahead of Harrison in the rankings. This is not the case though and McCloskey has fallen a few places since he won the European title as other fighters have overtaken him.

Because his only win in the last two years was against Victor Hugo Castro, which is not really a big win, and he has also not fought for 9 months.

He is in the top 10, so he is not really that low.
