Ashley Sexton vs. Shinny Bayaar
Ashley Sexton vs. Shinny Bayaar
I know this fight is going to be overshadowed by Mitchell-Katsidis and Khan-Malignaggi but how do people see this one going on Friday night? Sexton has looked impressive in his last two outings but surely Shinny will provide a much tougher test for him. The young, inexperienced Sexton has never been beyond 6 rounds and I think Shinny could take him the distance so it will be interesting to see how he gets on over 12 if it does in fact go that far.
Any opinions?

Shinny Bayaar makes the first defence of his British flyweight title in an intriguing showdown with Cheshunt threat Ashley Sexton in Dagenham this Friday (May 14).Deno1986 wrote:I know this fight is going to be overshadowed by Mitchell-Katsidis and Khan-Malignaggi but how do people see this one going on Friday night? The tough, awkward Bayaar, a Mongolian settled in Oldham, dropped down from bantamweight to win the title late last year from squat Stoke brawler Chris Edwards on a close but worthy decision in Bolton. It meant Bayaar hasn't lost in six years since then British bantamweight champion Martin Power failed to budge him over 10 non-title rounds in London in 2004, although southpaw Shinny has struggled for work ever since. Like his compatriot, Choi Tseveenpurev, Bayaar drags around the ball and chain of “Who needs Him?” with just 20 fights to show for 10 years as a pro.
His British title clearly makes him more agreeable to the confident, unbeaten Sexton, 9-0 (5), an up-and-comer who won the English flyweight title with a brutal first-round knockout of Derby’s former British title challenger Usman Ahmed last time out in January and who looks a great prospect at just 22 with good boxing skills to go with his power. The question is whether Sexton is ready for a seasoned, avoided battler like Bayaar, having never done more than six rounds, although Team Sexton would argue that a sharp punch explains the latter and that the champion is tight at flyweight, which he must be at 32. Bayaar was up at bantamweight again in a non-title six-rounder in March.
Nevertheless, the outcome really depends on how well Sexton steps up to the plate because a step-up it most definitely is. Bayaar has never been stopped and would probably have won a British title years ago had he been a British resident. He qualified just a few months before outscoring Edwards. I can see Bayaar struggling in the early rounds to pin down the clever, quicker challenger but his experience taking over from the middle rounds as he grinds out a close but deserved 12-round decision.

Not sure, I haven't seen too much of Shinny. But I've seen a bit of Sexton and from what I read this is going to be a fight well worth watching.
Top weekend for boxing!

This fight gets things going nicely on Friday night. Sexton definitely wants to prove something. Classic match up.

Fascinating clash of styles, a poor-man's Steve Robinson vs Naseem Hamed. Flashy, talented youngster against the champion who has earned his belt the hard way. If Sexton boxes with maturity and lets his talent do the talking he should chip away at Bayaar and stop him, but if he lets the occasion go to his head and he rushes himself (especially if he gets some success early), he could be in trouble later on if he blows himself out.
Have to go with the younger, fresher, more talented man though and see Sexton fighting at a higher level than he ever has to beat Bayaar either on points or anywhere from the 8th and negotiating the odd tough patch on the way to his first major title.

Tough fight for Sexton but hard not be impressed with that frightening one round blow-out of Uzzy Ahmed, who had never been halted before. By all acoounts Bayaar struggled against his last opponent and if "Flash Ash" can employ similar hit and move tactics, he should be able to come away with the win.
Re: Ashley Sexton vs. Shinny Bayaar
Props to Sexton for wanting to get in there and rip the title away from Bayaar.
This will answer all the questions we want to know about Sexton. He looks a brilliant prospect but he's got a very early acid test in his career. Bayaar is very tough at 8st and won't leave his chin dangling like Ahmed did, when Ashley won the English title.
It's almost a no-lose situation for Sexton.....he's young enough to come again, but he looks to have excellent power and there seems to be something a bit special about him so I think he'll be British champ by Friday. Then he can start shooting down the rest of the British contenders.

This could be a cracker!!! Sexton looks super talented but Bayaar is very tough and will pose many questions to Sexton but I think he'll have enough to build up an early lead and then Bayaar will reduce it but not by enough to get the nod
Re: Ashley Sexton vs. Shinny Bayaar
sexton must box his way to a decision and not blow his chance by running out of stamina. take it easy, outbox this bayaar and if the chance comes take it, but don't go looking for ko

Re: Ashley Sexton vs. Shinny Bayaar
I think this is cracking fight and am very much looking forward to it.
I think if Sexton fights with as much aggression as he normally does he will win it with a KO but if Shinny starts well then it could be more awkward and the longer it goes the better chance Shinny will have.
I'm not really a big fan of lighter weight boxing lower than lightweight but this is one fight to look forward to.
