Why bother? Nobody knows who hold Commonwealth belts anyway.ra2006 wrote:Brute, Kevin Rudd needs you!!!Brute wrote:Charles Adamu is Commonwealth Super Middleweight Champ.
"Boxrec" ranks him 110 in the World. That puts him behind at least 10 Australians.
Such manipulation of statistics and twisting an arguements is a pleasure to read. You should be in politcs right now, Carberra awaits.
It looks like you have taken the effort to look up every CW champion to assess their Boxrec ranking, please do the same for the rest, then compare it to OPBF champion rankings.

Re: The Commonwealth belt
i wish it was still highly sourt after by our fighters, i would rather see our guys fighting for those belts than shitty IBO/WBF "world"titles and all those lame pan pacific ones, there is still good competition from commonwealth countries in every division.
Re: The Commonwealth belt
thats wat i mean bout easier ( u know - padded ). commenwealth titles probly more fair dinkum

If the country goes mad at the next election you may get a run in the Mad Monk's 'green army.'ra2006 wrote:Brute, Kevin Rudd needs you!!!Brute wrote:Charles Adamu is Commonwealth Super Middleweight Champ.

Re: The Commonwealth belt
There is also good competition between the Asians over in our area it's just that the ones brought over here to fight our fighters are beatable just like the Africans brought over to England to fight for there Commonwealth title as far as padded records go you can get a shot at a World title these days.thunderfromdownunder wrote:i wish it was still highly sourt after by our fighters, i would rather see our guys fighting for those belts than shitty IBO/WBF "world"titles and all those lame pan pacific ones, there is still good competition from commonwealth countries in every division.

Boxer quality in ABCs' title bouts measured by Boxrec ratings - this are the latest standings - all title bouts of the recent 2 years included:keyboard warrior wrote:Just asking: Would it have something to do with the emergence of Asian countries as boxing nations post-WWII. Meaning it's now cheaper and easier to get a South-Pacific or similar regional belt, thus making the CW belt a little redundant?ra2006 wrote:I am shocked. I was brought up in boxing with the knowledge that the CW belt was a major milestone for a boxer hoping to advance to the World stage.
I can accept that our two countries are not a 1 hour flight away from each other, I feel that there is a Republican feel about some of the posts, but one thing I believe is that a Commonwealth Champion is worth double a IBF/WBO APAC champion or a OPBF champion.
Historically, and the big four rankings do not lie, the CW champion is considered a top 20 rankiing by all 4 major bodies.
There are Aussies whom I think would make major assults on this opportunity. Billy Dib is one fighter whom I think would set alight another tilt at the world stage with the CW belt.

Re: The Commonwealth belt
It is a good title. Has history and prestige. I don't think anyone begrudges the OPBF or even PABA. But when you've got innumerable variants like the IBF Australasian, WBO Asia Pacific etc and then even Australasian boxers fighting for Latin and African titles (not to mention the WBF) when they're eligible for the Commonwealth, I think that's what people are complaining about.Marlin wrote:So OPBF poops all over the Commonwealth...

Re: The Commonwealth belt
Are the Poms big on the Commonwealth strap now? I have read that Norton has declined to defend his cruiserweight belt against Vea because he wants to fight for a Lonsdale belt.
Re: The Commonwealth belt
OPBF does well 'cos Japs don't recognize any other regional title
Re: The Commonwealth belt
Yeah, OPBF, champion of Australia and Japan
Re: The Commonwealth belt
Have you noticed the number of Russian and Ukrainian OPBF and PABA champions? Orient and Pacific takes in all of Asia, from Turkey eastwards.dberry wrote:Yeah, OPBF, champion of Australia and Japan
It also includes the west coast of the USA.
