Wow. Great opportunity.
Re: willie limond v eric morales
seriously? great opportunity for him, limond aint been in action much recently and it seems like ages since he's been on telly.
Re: willie limond v eric morales
I'd be amazed if Morales can do the weight, but he seemed really shot anyway, i'd fancy the light punching Limond to stop him
Re: willie limond v eric morales
I take it the John Watson fight is not happening then??? ![[icon_e_confused.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)
Re: willie limond v eric morales
I guess it must be happening then, because from looking at this article, you're Willie's manager.

Brilliant news! Best of luck to Willie. I hope he wins.

Re: willie limond v eric morales
What weight would the fight be at? If he doesn't have trouble making weight Morales should beat Limond without too many issues.
Re: willie limond v eric morales
Khan vs Morales in late 2010 then???
Morales beats the man who KD's Khan.

Re: willie limond v eric morales
yeah wonder what Morales can have left at this stage, he's pretty shopworn, can't make weight, and has been very inactive, bit sad really seeing these old boys trudging on against guys they'd have beaten into a cocked hat in their prime, no offence to Limond, but I'm sure he'd admit the same.
Still, Erik's choice if he wants to continue, just hope he doesn't get hurt. Sometimes it's against the lighter punchers that the damage gets done.

Re: willie limond v eric morales
Glasgow joiner Willie Limond has been chipping away quietly since he lost controversially to Amir Khan on a thrilling night in London in 2007. Limond dropped the current WBA light-welterweight champion with a series of right hands in the sixth round but was dropped himself in the seventh and pulled out on his stool at the end of the eighth with various facial injries. However, Limond has always insisted that Khan failed to beat the count in that sixth round. Khan clambered up very late from the knockdown, then went down again, to be coaxed up, it seemed, by referee Marcus McDonnell. Should the ref have continued counting? Oh yes, says Limond, the man to first expose Khan's infamous glass jaw.
Limond has been close to one or two other big fights in the wake of his magnificent effort but they failed to materialise. He ticked over with five low-key wins against domestic opponsition, kept in shape, kept the faith and bam! Limond drops his tools and takes on comebacking Erik Morales overseas in September. The fight is a done deal says his trainer, Billy Nelson.
Limond goes over as the fall guy, of course, a patsy in the eyes of Morales and his backers. Nevertheless, he looks fresher than the faded Mexican legend, who has fought just once in three years and blows up enormously in weight. Morales dropped out of the sport in 2007 after five defeats in six fights, ate himself into oblivion, and finally sought the discipline of training earlier this year. He launched his comeback in March with a 12-round decision over Nicaragua's Jose Alfaro in Mexico.
His return echoes that of his former great rival, Marco Antonio Barrera, who was shipped over to Manchester last year marked 'shot' and picked off by Khan in five bloody rounds. Morales, like Barrea, is clearly past his best but still a great 'name', a man who holds a win over Manny Pacquiao no less. Limond will know that beating him could secure a pension fight, a Khan rematch perhaps. The Scot is not a huge puncher but a tidy boxer with temperament, durability, accuracy and stamina. The 'sleeper' of a fighter is more than capable of sneaking up on old man Morales and upsetting him.

I agree, i'm certainly not looking forward to the prospect of a great fighter like Morales being beaten by the Willie Limond's of the world. It's a great opportunity for Limond, who they are probably attempting to use as a springboard to Khan, a fight they have talked about quite a bit recently.jamesmcdonnell wrote:yeah wonder what Morales can have left at this stage, he's pretty shopworn, can't make weight, and has been very inactive, bit sad really seeing these old boys trudging on against guys they'd have beaten into a cocked hat in their prime, no offence to Limond, but I'm sure he'd admit the same.

Is this providing Morales can get past Jorge Rodrigo Barrios in July at light-welterweight?

By the by, whether it's Limond or Barrios he's facing next, I hope Morales hangs them up soon after. He looked shot to shite against Alfaro, actually carrying rolls of fat (which looks weird on his as-ever Skeletor-like frame), his timing was about six months off, & he couldn't seem to dent Alfaro, who a few months earlier had been outclassed & dropped three times by Antonio DeMarco at lightweight (Alfaro's real weight). Worrying signs for El Terrible.

Hitman, he didn't mate, try & watch the fight. Alfaro could've got a draw for my money -- Morales workrate was low, he lacked power & he just couldn't seem to pull the trigger. Also he was physically bullied by the guy. This against a career lightweight who had been outlcassed & blasted into unconsciousness in his last fight by Tony DeMarco. The man's shot.
We had the same thing when Barrera had those comeback bouts against scrubs in China before he fought Khan, people on this forum going "Oh, he's still got something left", even when I posted the video to prove that he actually hadn't got anything left whatsoever. Morales is, as I said, shot to shite. Name recognition counts for nothing when the name is attached to an ambulatory corpse.
Believe it or not, in his current state I'd fancy Limond to push him close.

admittedly even that one was a couple of years back now.
didn't get the verdict though.
going on that form he's got enough for limond still.

Indeed, on that form -- but he's regressed. Badly.

Limond's people are wasting their time, no way Khan is going to give him another crack, what for? Khan is already moving up to world class now, Limond offers nothing but a potential banana skin, though I doubt Limond would emjoy the same level of competitiveness second time around anyway Khan's defence is leagues better than it was then.
