Jon Thaxton will meet Christophe De Busillet for the WBF lightweight title on April 9th, more on BBN or http://www.jonthaxton.co.uk

The fight will be shown on BritishBoxing.net a day or two after

Christophe has won 2 of his last 7, none of his last 3. And Jono is not embarrassedabout this being a supposed world title fight?

WBF isn't a great deal tackier than the WBU... how about a unification rematch?

Seriously though, its another Joke fight. I have read that Thaxton is annoyed at his UK ranking in one (or both) of the trade publications. What does that make him think of my ranking of him over at BBN I don't know. Thaxton has got to prove that he is back to his form he was pre-injury. This again will not prove anything more than his previous comeback fights - and his ranking will not significantly improve (if at all).

Similar to Magee, although Allan Vester is a much better fighter than this guy. Magee will have a decent ranking position, it might even be #1 because although Allan Vester isn't fantastic he's not a bad fighter and if Barnes would have fought Vester we would have called it a decent match. Added to that the inactivity of Khaliq I think Magee will be very highly positioned next month.

Thaxton though is in a weight class where there is alot of talented fighters, he's has got to prove himself worthy of a top ten place - so far he hasn't and this belt will not make a bit of difference to my thoughts.

Thaxton was due to fight Mutu who is rated number 5 in the EBU ratings and 39 in the WBC ratings, Mutu pulled out after injury a hand though, so the search was on for a replacement. Two other boxers were talked of for opponents but the board did not sanction them, De Busillet was passed as an opponent by them.

As for his rating with BBN, he does not agree with that's for sure, but deep down I think he knows he has to prove himself again and I think he can.

He went down the WBF route because he wasn't getting a look in at British title level, with the eliminators etc. it would have been a while before he got a fight for that belt, and he also was waiting for a shot at maybe the SOuthern area title but as he won that at 19, he felt it was a step back.

I don't know this Mutu fella (what is his first name) but by his ranking that sounded like a much better fight and one that would have seen him back in the top ten if he would have won it.

There was a list of around 10 but some were veteod by the board. Mutu got injured the day before the press conference to announce him as an opponent.

Maybe Mutu will be considered next, not sure what route Jon is taking, I'll be talking to him soon

Earl Ling's fight was called off at 9.30 on Saturday morning when Nate Joseph came down from his hotel room with a cold and was pronounced unfit by the doc.

Ling fought a three round exhibition with Simeon Cover instead.

Great night of boxing, a sold out crowd and a great win for Thaxton who suffered a flash knockdown in the third but came out with more purpose in the fourth and Ko'd the frenchman right on the bell, the count was at two when the bell sounded.

The fights will be up on BritishBoxing.net to watch from tomorrow.

To my mind Jonathan Thaxton may be the best British fighter of recent years who has challenged for, but never won the British title.
