Its often funny how fighters say who was the toughest, strongest, etc they ever fought. foreman claimed cooney hit him the hardest. archie moore claimed hatchetman sheppard hit him the hardest. lamotta said satterfield. etc.

I don't think Sven Ottke was on anyone's list though.

I think it's a known fact that Sven retired because he was afraid of his own power. Fight after fight it was all he could do to NOT kill his opponents with his punches. It took extreme conditioning and self restraint. As he grew older it became more difficult to hold back, and in deference to his future opponents who were likely going to pay the ultimate price....he benevolently and selflessly retired undefeated.

Let's just hope that he is not persuaded to return to the ring at an age where he would no longer have the ability to successfully self restrain.

If Ottke unleashes all his restrained power in of of those 45 degree killer punches someone is sure to die :(

I think a lot of his potential opponents are fully aware of that. Don't be surprised if an entire division in boxing were to announce their abrupt departure from the sport if he should return to active status. Not to mention the myriad of boxing fans that would make the same decision.

The entire Boxing community could be rendered a virtual ghost town overnight.

On March 24th 2009 the WBC named Vitali Klitschko as the 'greatest ever puncher in boxing history'.
In January 2000 Earnie Shavers was officially named as the ‘hardest hitting heavyweight ever’ by the IBA. He was presented with the award on February 5th 2000 by IBA president Dean Chance.
