Hall/Napa British title June 4th

Post by GlobalBox »

Decent fight this really, Hall strong and busy, whilst Napa skilful but definately slowing a shade. Whats the boards view on this one, I wonder with home advantage whether Hall can rise to the challenge, huge advantages in height (as everyone has) against Napa, or will he walk onto lots of counters from the dappa one.

Fill in the blanks- how has Napa got this shot? Did the champion vacate?

Hackney veteran Ian Napa bids for his old title when he faces Darlington prospect Stuart Hall for the vacant British bantamweight title in Peterlee on June 4.
Napa was closely outscored for the title by Donaster surprise package Jamie McDonnell earlier this year, a man who went on to wrest the European bantamweight title. Napa had proved a very good British champion and deserves this second go. A pro since 1998, the 32-year-old Napa is small and light-hitting but he has all the moves, all the experience. He defines the word 'cute'.
Unbeaten Hall earned his shot with a fine eight-round stoppage of Londoner Martin Power last September at Brentwood. A long-time amateur, Hall went into it relatively untested as a pro and picked up an early cut but threw too many shots for Power, who holds a win over Napa. Hall, 30, is rapidly making up for lost time. He will enjoy big support on the night in his native North East.
Clearly, this fight makes for a nice blend of styles, the boxer versus the aggressor, the established man versus the new boy. Hall still has an inexperienced feel about him after just eight pro fights and has never travelled 12 rounds but his desire and workrate will keep him in there with the punch-picking Napa.
In the end the canny Napa picks just enough punches to edge the points.

My honest opinion here is that fights like this are good as undercard bouts- the main support etc- but fall a little short as main events on Friday Fight Night.

Nothing against either boxer, of course.

It's like with a lot of the Friday Fight nights recently- decen enough match ups, but in themseleves not really enough to "carry" the whole live show.

But to be positive- if there is a good other bout on live, them I'm keen to tune in. 8)
