Can Katsidis be big in the UK?

Post by Old bones Ian »

After his big win on Saturday Katsidis said he was willing to keep coming over here and fight whoever from the contenders.
Could he fill a big Saturday night venue in the UK?
He's exciting and great for TV, he also says all the right things in the press.

Him and Hatton would be massive if Ricky Thirdperson spends a fraction of his Churchill moolah on a gastric band.

Katsidis definitely can become big in the UK. Whether he wants to or not is the question. If Warren took him on board and he was promoted the right way, he really could be big. A win over Hatton would catapult him up there.

yes he can be big in the UK with a fight vs khan.

seems like khan's ppl want it, and with katsidis being "brit killer" it would be an interesting fight, even up at 140.

i think the fight is good but not the date.

they're playing down talk of july 31, katsidis' side are. it seems ppl are maybe trying to rush katsidis, when he has a shot at the marquez-diaz winner. reckon katsidis wants to see who wins, see what happens, and that july 31 is too close a date.

they'll have to offer katsidis a massive payday for him to give up a shot at the lightweight title.

If I were Katsidis, I'd tell Khan's people to go poke it, and make them weight, they are obviously trying to get him quickly in the hope he's a bit drained from fighting too close together. He had a very long training camp for this fight, and needs to recuperate. He would be foolish to give Khan any edge.

I believe Khan has the tools to punish Katsidis, but Katsidis also has the leveller, one thing is for certain, if he hurts Khan, he will finish the job.

He's made a name for himself in Britian so it would be a good bit of business by a British promoter if they could bring him back, maybe Murray or he could be the home fighter :TU:

I can only see Kastidis doing well in the UK by fighting UK fighters. I aint convinced John Murray will want to fight him just yet, I think Ricky Hatton has retired (I noticed no-one mention his name during the Khan vs Malignaggi build up and post fight as an opponent for Khan.... biggest British fight in history that) - only time he was mentioned was cause Malignaggi lost to him.

I think Kastidis will want to fight at Lightweight for a while yet, so cannot see him fighting Khan quite yet.

I don't think Katsidis vs a world rated non Brit will do well here.

How does that work?? They both fought on the same night!!!

If anything it works in Katsidis' favour: he fought 3 easy rounds whilst Khan went 11!

People can be fickle , who they like and don't like . Kasidas comes across very well in his interviews , but there an awful lot in his home town , don't have time for him , been known to behave in lets say similar ways to a scotish boxer , not the alchahol , but not known for being all smiles and grins , done time for hurting a young fella when the young bloke was pissed and apparantly after a drinking bout the young bloke had the audacity to piss on a car wheel .

Well Rocky seen it and apparantly jumped to the car wheels defense , and give the kid a flogging the kid sustained some injuries and the defence was a good one , it was his mates car , judge did'nt see it the same way and give him some time to think about it , Rumour is he has'nt been back to Australia through choice , All in all i don't believe Michael Kasidas is such a popular man around where he lives

Katsidis was jailed in 2001, as a 20 year old, he spent 6 months in a maximum prison. So i don't think he compares to Scott Harrison at all.

Who hasn't got into a fight at 20? Harrison is in his 30's and fighting

Hence why more people will want to pay to watch him lose to a Brit.

Katsidis was out drinking with mates when another young guy was pissing on his mates car. He got into an altercation which he obviously won. Big deal he was 20.

I cant see wht the big deal is, When i was 20 i would have done the same thing.

I can't see Khan vs Katsidis happening any time soon. I think it's more likely that Golden Boy are looking to sign Katsidis, or already have.

YOU'd do the same, that would make ya brave would'nt it, a stupid kid might do it has a excuse for belting someone, Kasidas was a top boxer ,

they've had him for ages - fights with amonsot, casamayor, juan diaz, jesus chavez - but now apparently he's a free agent.

FW needs some headliners, he has a quality stable but it will be a couple of years before they come through.
Someone of FW's talents could easily make Katdsidis very popular here, in fairness to the Aussie he is an easy guy to promote.
Katsidis is a guy I would certainly pay to watch

The same was said of Prescott, okay Kastidis is more ALOT more proven than Prescott.... but everyone was left wanting more after the Khan performance, but it didn't work out.

The fact is, foreign based fighters only work when he is against a Brit.

I think Katsidis would be easier to sell though, and more attractive to the promoter as he is genuine world class.

FW knew Prescott weren't that great which is why he was brought back for Mitchell, Prescott would also have language difficulties too whereas the Aussie is charismatic

Fair points, but history is against it. Its not just Prescott.... even Johnny Tapia - now there is a fighter who oozed Charisma, still had something to offer - wanted to fight in the UK again. Had his sole UK fight in the York Hall, yeah an historic venue, but thats not the reason why Tapia fought there. He fought there cause he couldn't fill a bigger venue just fighting the guy he was up against. He needed to fight a Brit to get the big sell out.

Daniel Santos, Joan Guzman, Acelino Freitas, Jeff Lacy, Marco Antonio Barrera, all fought in the UK.... 3 of these were affiliated with Sports Network, none of them could sustain themselves as British stars - unless they were fighting British fighters.
