THE OBLIGATORY TWICE WEEKLY AUDLEY HARRISON THREAD
Jesus talk about How To fornicate Up A Boxing Career in 17 Easy Steps.
What exactly is this big lumbering goon up to right now? Still recovering from his latest 'injury' (pulled a breast muscle whilst trying to lift a particularly heavy trifle from the back of the fridge)
Is he in the US getting some quality sparring with live bodies? That little trilogy of fights he had in the states really impressed me. The way he waxed those guys was impressive, but his return to the UK was what i would charitably refer to as 'wank'. The 12 rd dec over a 40 yr old out of shape Jules was a disgrace and his 9 rd kayo of yet another obscure Euro-import was a complete waste of time.
He is now 34 i think. He has a WBF belt. He has bypassed British & European titles & now finds himself in a position where the only way he can regain credibility & advance his stagnant career is by fighting a live body. Unfortunately due to the extremely poor level of his competition, he is unprepared to fight a live body (Could see Ross Purrity chinning Big Aud if he had to go past the 4th rd)
As far as im concerned 5 years has passed & he has achieved precisely fornicate all (other than making himself & the game of boxing into a joke with the general public- cheers mate!!)
The only possible way Audley could get back on track would be either to fight Luan Krasniqi for the European heavy title (never going to happen considering Auds fear of challenges) or come back to the UK and bump off either Herbie Hide (could be made), Danny Williams, or Matt Skelton (both allegedly fighters, highly unlikely)
Either that or a tough ex-contender with a name like a Lawrence Clay-Bey or Clifford Etienne, however due to his soft match making there is no way he could win these fights.
Although i think Matt Skelton has no skills or future at least he recognises he has to get what he can in his hsort time left whereas Audley like a punk tried pathetically to bullshit his way to a world title shot & seems to have realised this is not possible & he cant fight. I would not be surprised to see him fade into low key obscurity ala Prince Naseem.

Overhand! good to see you back hows it going.
Audley is bemusing, on his site he's prepared to tell the world he's been visiting army barracks and womens prisons but refuses to shed any light on his 'rehabilitation', very odd.
Until I hear genuine evidence of what his boxing career is doing next, I will remain uninterested. We've given him so many chances and benefits of the doubt as fight fans, but he's continually proved he isn't really a fighter/doesn't have the heart and is all talk.
disagree about audley having no chance to beat cley bey or etienne, he'd probably make a meal of both but etienne is obviously liable to fold when hit, he looked frail and got kayoed vs the limited Brock, and cley bey is tough but should be outfoxed even by someone w/ low workrate & occasional flashy skills like audley.
He wouldn't plough straight into these matchups however, which he needs to do for time's sake.

Compare the level of Audleys competiton to that of Clay-Beys & Etiennes, & explain to me CLEARLY how exactly he has shown any evidence of being able to beat these former world ranked heavies.
The man could do nothing with a 40 yr old Julius Francis who came in on less than a weeks notice. These guys despite their limitations are TOUGH experienced fighters who's opposition is light years ahead of Audleys.
Audley hasn't even proven he has the tools/balls to beat live bodies on the domestic scene, let alone Europe or the world.
Your responses amaze me.

Well, Calvin Brock certainly managed to beat clifford easy enough, and you must have seen brock overhand, he's very ordinary and previously had the same kind of limited opposition level that audley has. it was a step up for brock, but he passed the test pretty easily. Not that it suggested him to be a future champ.overhand_right wrote:Compare the level of Audleys competiton to that of Clay-Beys & Etiennes, & explain to me CLEARLY how exactly he has shown any evidence of being able to beat these former world ranked heavies.

cley bey would be a tougher proposition but he's beatable, hell you make out these guys just because they are proven tough fighters also can't act as stepping stones or that inexperienced guys have no chance against them.
these guys are tough like you say but everyone has to step up sometime and face that level, for me audley beats them both.
If he would just fight them.

I have a confession to make. The last time I saw a full Audley Harrison fight was when I stayed up late to watch him in the Olympics. I have avoided all his pro fights. The closest I have come to seeing one is a) when I walked up the steps to the Kelvin Hall before thinking better of it b) when I tuned in shortly before John Keane made that appalling stoppage against Bonin. I simply saw no potential in him, and it looks now that I was right.

A breast Muscle, the lack of activity has made Audley grow breasts!
That boy needs to hit the Gym!
I had such high Hopes for a Future UK Heavyweight Star, Winning the Gold did nothing for him apart from some quick pay days.
Maybe he is going for the record of the oldest Heayweight Champion in History!
I think we have a clone in the 60kg Division on the way! I just hope he takes a different road to him!

The comparison with Briggs is unfair to Briggs who while his career was ruined by drugs etc at least can say he fought the best of his time and showed a warriors heart as a pro (and as an Amuteuer).
Audely hasn't even faced the best in Britain!.
I was never convinced about Harrison... he always seemed uncomfortable when tagged... not so much a bad chin as an unwillingness to fight. I really don't think he LIKES boxing. There doesn't seem to be any hunger.
I wouldn't be surprised at all to just see him never fight again like Hamed... the other option is that he really starts from square one again in America and I don't think he has the desire to do that.

It was just a general comment on a Gold Medelist, whom good things were expected of, but never acchieved them etc.
Biggs also faced much better opposition in the unpaid ranks.
Its a shame because had Audely stepped in with the likes of Sprott, Williams, Hide etc it would have been a real shot in the arm for the domestic scene. People are always going on about world titles but at the end of the day what the average fan wants to see is good fights and these would have been good, competitive domestic fights... which is what the fans and boxing itself needs and which is so rare nowadays...
Thats right, Biggs faced Teofillo Stevenston a number of times.KOJOE90 wrote:Fair point.silkov wrote:The comparison with Briggs is unfair to Briggs who while his career was ruined by drugs etc at least can say he fought the best of his time and showed a warriors heart as a pro (and as an Amuteuer).

He was if anything pushed too soon as a pro... went right into fighting the likes of Bey and Snipes and Jeff Sims very early.
Biggs beat Sims with a broken collarbone.
From what I know about Biggs is he had drug problems and that his management went for the "shit or bust" option and threw him in with Tyson too early (as they were worried there investment would be doomed due to his habit) who Biggs had beaten the Amateur ranks to Qualify for the Olympics where he won a Gold. From there it was a gradual slide downwardsKOJOE90 wrote:Fair point.silkov wrote:The comparison with Briggs is unfair to Briggs who while his career was ruined by drugs etc at least can say he fought the best of his time and showed a warriors heart as a pro (and as an Amuteuer).

Biggs I think fought the feared Teofilio Steveson 3 times, lost all three, twice on points. At a time when many top fighters would not fight the Cuban missile launcher once.silkov wrote:Thats right, Biggs faced Teofillo Stevenston a number of times.KOJOE90 wrote:Fair point.silkov wrote:The comparison with Briggs is unfair to Briggs who while his career was ruined by drugs etc at least can say he fought the best of his time and showed a warriors heart as a pro (and as an Amuteuer).

Biggs was indeed rushed as a professional due I assume to the Duva's not wanting to wait around untill Biggs fried his brain and body with cocain.

I've never been a great fan of Duva... I remember reading him saying how he opened up a cut of one of his fighters wider so that he would get a tech decision and I just thought that this didn't seem like the way to treat your fighter or another human being... after all bad cuts and scar tissue affects careers doesn't it. The Duvas always seem in it for the fast buck.Manos de Oro wrote:IMO the Duva's ain't the best at handling young fighters. I think Arum is better, along with none other than Allegedly (in a monetary sense).
Meldrick Taylor being put in with Terry Norris is another example.

Oooh! Audrey's ranked #2 by the IBU behind John Poore. Surely he's now mandatory since Poore's now faught (and lost.) I reckon Audley should go on a mad spree unifying all crappy belts by fighting journeymen american's.
This is quite funny though - "John Poore [is made #1] after petitioning the IBU to do so." Stringent policy there. What happens if two people write to the IBU at the same time?
