Re: Best year of fights
To me, I gotta say 1982. It would have been much better that year if Sugar Ray Leonard would have never retired and Salvador Sanchez not died in the car accident. Marvin Hagler was going to fight Thomas Hearns, but Hearns hurt his finger. Then Hagler thought he was going to fight Leonard, when both were in their primes, and it did not happened.
I would have loved to see Sanchez vs Eusebio Pedroza to cap the year off.
But, 1982 indeed, was probably the best year in boxing in the 80s decade. Look at these fights:
Pryor vs Arguello I
Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim
Hearns vs Benitez
Gomez vs Pintor
Sanchez vs Azumah Nelson
Holmes vs Cooney
Qawi vs Saad Muhammad II
Chacon vs Bazooka Limon IV
A great year of a decade of great fights.
