Keep saying it - like him or loathe him Frank W arren is still the number 1 promoter in Europe!!

Time and time again he knows how to put on a good show.

I have a feeling he will have to rush "The Olympians" on as he is running out of headliners.

We will see Book and Cleverly in big fights and the charm offensive is now starting with the likes of Degale.

I thought sounded strange as well, but I think he meant that 17 thousand had been sold by last weds.

I will be saving judgement. I agree lastnite was a good show, good matchups and venue but lets agree that Warren has put some shite on in the past. Lets just hope his next few shows are as good as lastnites. We need them now as boxing is slowly going down the pan.

Like I say all the time, Best promoter that Europe has ever had, That bill last night was unreal and not many fighters can say I boxed at the stadium my football team play at, it would be a dream come true to box at Goodison Park and Frank made that dream come true for Kevin Mitchell last night by putting on an amazing show at Upton Park.. :TU:

Just a shame about the end result.. :(

Hello all. I lurk, but now it is time for my first post.

14fuckinthousand!!

Let me put this into comparison. Mayweather vs Mosley @ MGM Grand was a 15,117 sell out! Ok, the the money comes from the ppv there, but not bad considering there was only 1 proven world class fighter on the card, and he was the away fighter.

From the 15 or 16 people i know who actually went to it (rather than observe from TV) they said it was a load of crap.

Apparently 2 hours beforehand they served no food and no alcohol and many had strange views of the ring.

Apparently they were swamped with jokers with side partings, plimsols and cardigans... one even took a bet with his mate before someone said "what a mug" and it last 3 minutes.

The card was dreadful as was Mitchell's entrance band.

PS- i never went, just reporting back the feedback from a load that did.

The venue did leave a bit to be desired, but it was a good occasion, especially for the Eastenders/West Ham boys...

Our £30 seats were poor and should have been labelled restricted view in my opinion. I think at boxing you've always gotta look for a better seat, and the block nearest the tunnel pretty much line with the ring was empty!

Come on Gomez, if Froch fought in front of that crowd at the city ground you wouldn't hear a word against it.

Shittest big bill I went to in recent memory was Froch v Dirrell. The undercard was a disgrace and the best fight was shown on a big screen

There won't be many football statium shows in the future, I think!

To be honest, it all just "didn't feel right".

Wales wrote:& great bill.
Was it????

OK, we didn't (necessarily) expect Williams to fold so easily, and on paper that might have been a good fight, but other than that, what else on the bill was close to being a decent, well matched fight?

allegedly HAS done some good uncercards at big venues recently, but i wouldn't call this bill one of them.

I went with two mates and we had a great night (other than the main event result). Fair play FWP events are streets ahead of any of the others we go to in this country.

That's the thing people forget, American fighters can draw PPV, but there's no way they can draw the fans that Hatton or Calzaghe (towards the end of his career) could get.

That shows the difference in our stereotypical cultures. Yanks, stay at home drinkers who pay for their sport. Brits, any excuse for a good piss-up. :D

Ok, so someone tell me where would British boxing be now if Frank knocked it on the head? Would it be better or worse? What would you see different happening? Genuine question this for someone more educated than me to answer.

Notice how that generally means the match ups are better in America.

If a fight is being sold on a fighters name, such as in the UK, the the opponent doesn't need to be as notable. If you want the armchair fans to tune in, then the BOUT must sell itself.
