know this list is not complete and anybody who can find any omissions could you please point them out. I made this list in research for a book i'm thinking about writing and for my own reference but i thought i would share it with you so feel free to copy and paste it. I include only the big 4 WBC WBA WBO IBF interim titles don't count but if upgraded to full title status and defended eg (Arthur) they appear.

1994-Wharton x2
Re: British Fighters In World Title Fights
There are a lot of Irish fighters in there. Collins and Carruth are not British. I'd recommend changing the thread title to 'British and Irish' to avoid a heated confrontation.
Re: British Fighters In World Title Fights
I will remove Carruth and Ste Collins did not mean to include Irish fighters really as i am purely interested in British fighters i thought i had removed all the all Ste Collins fights will check over now any additions are welcome Mcguigan is for this purpose considered British

1933 Jackie Brown, Ginger Foran,
1934 Jackie Brown
1935 Nel Tharleton
1936 Dave Crowley, Pat Palmer
1938 Peter Kane
I'll do from 1940 onwards later.
some other people that fought for 'world' titles that were not recognized by most were.
Bruce Woodcock fought Lee Savold which was only recognized by the British board.
As the British board said Len Harvey (1939) and Freddie Mills (1942) were world champions.
Randy Turpin was recognized as world champion after beating Charles Humez (1953), this title claim was recognized in Europe only.
Matt Wells claimed to be welter champ in early 1900's
Ben Jordan beat the world featherweight champ George Dixon in 1898, but Dixon said it was a non title bout, only after the fight did he claim this!
Jim Driscoll also beat a reigning champ and claimed to be champ, but this was a non title bout.
A boxer called Tommy Noble did win a world championship belt in 1920, at Featherweight, but no-one knows who gave him the belt, so his claim wasn't taken seriously.
At Bantam we have British boxers in the late 1890's claiming the title. Chappie Moran and Billy Plimmer.
With any research i would always suggest getting hold of record books from the years you are looking at. i got most of those names from reading record books from the 1900's onwards.
Internet records are very good, but the books have fights that are sometimes missed by the internet.
