Realistically, how good is Katsidis?

Post by jwoods »

He is a good fighter, but he is limited.

Casamayor laid him out.
Juan Diaz beat him.

He falls shots at the top level. JMM would surely annihilate him with the counter punches. Khan would likely box circles around him and maybe even stop him. I'd take Guzman to beat him too.

Lets not overrate him on the board.

I rate him very highly.. He said afterwards that it's the first time he's been given 12 weeks to prepare for a fight and it's the best he's ever felt, He said the most notice he'd had previously was about 6 to 8 weeks and that was very rare?? He appuladed Frank and said he's the best he's dealt with!! He also stated everytime he prepares for the fights the other promoters used to postpone or do something to mess up his training schedule but said Frank didn't do this, He told him the venue and date and gave him 12 weeks that's why he said he was in the shape of his life..

It bloody showed as well to be honest, He prepared like a champion and performed like a champion too!!

If Marquez still has anything about him he would make mincemeat out of Katsidis. Think Soto takes him to school as well. As for Khan, easy easy easy for Amir imo. His long arm punching would be too much for Katsidis and I see him cutting him to shreds and the fight getting stopped espeically if it is in the UK

He is good but he is not great. I won decent money on Cesamayoyer laying him out (True story, not just saying it for effect) because class is permanent and Joel somehow ended up as underdog

Good fighter no doubt but be will not unify anytime soon

he is good, but we do have to be realistic. i agree, a sharpshooter like marquez or a well schooled guy like soto will have too much in terms of boxing skill. even an older marquez and a soto who hasn't carried his punch up in weight. katsidis may have his moments, may even turn it into a really exciting battle, but i can't see him winning.

katsidis v guerrero probably would have been a great fight, but it's no one's fault that the fight didn't get made.

Indeed, light punching Juan Diaz thouroughly outboxed him. I think someone like Maidana would cause Katsidis real harm. It puts Mitchell into perspective and it's surprising because I genuinely thought mitchell was much better

light welter is a terrible idea for a short armed slugger like katsidis. khan has filled out nicely at 140 and it would be a big mistake to move up and fight khan.

Would give most World champions around is weight a lot to think about.

I read David Haye's comments in Boxing News on Friday where he labelled Katsidis a "poor man's Arturo Gatti."

I thought this was a little harsh on the Australian as I certainly think he has the beating of Gatti. If Haye meant this comment for their blood and guts displays then I still think Katsidis isn't far behind Gatti in terms of excitement.

A match between these two would have been something else.

This thread just shows how far away Mitchell is from world level.

I think Katsidis is fringes of world class, and is a handful for anyone, although I do think he will always just come up slightly short against the elite. No shame in that though, and it means he does compete well at a very, very good level.I felt sorry for Kevin M on Saturday.I thought he looked the smaller man in there and it told as the fight wore on.

There are so many good fights out there for him i'd love to see him against Robert Guerrero or Humberto Soto.

A good counter puncher will give him really bad problems everytime BUT I will say this, There ain't many that will outfight and out punch this guy.. He is a very ferocious fighter, You maybe right and think Kevin don't belong at this level BUT I think Kevin does and I think he'll prove that if he fights someone like say John Murray, Hopefully at somewhere like the M.E.N :TU:

Great domestic dust up and decent payday for both fighters.. :TU:

I'm not over-rating him. It's just about levels. For me Katsidis is lower-mid world level at his weight certainly not in the top 2-3 but up there on the fringes, Mitchell is higher british/euro level. It's simple as that.

Mitchell did not have anything like the size, power or chin to keep Katsidis at bay for long.

Katsidis is one of those fighters though, win lose or draw, you know you will watch him again, so he has a career made. One or two losses aint a disaster for him like it might be for others as he has such a saleable style.

He's dangerous but as already stated he'll lose against the very best unless they take him lightly.

And he laid out Casamayor, close fight until he got tagged and I think if he catches AK like he did Casamayor he will finish him.

Mitchell falling that quickly caught me napping.

Now the physicals have to come into play when talking about boxers from either side of the pond.
Serious Conditioning ?
Do we know what that is anymore ?
Or at least preparing for someone that is.

Haye is bang on the money, Katsidis is a well conditioned brawler, who's strong with overrated power. He is nothing more, Diaz schooled him, ancient Casa laid him out. As for Katsidis being 'has the beating of Gatti' I'm not sure why, Gatti's a 2 weight champ, beating the classy Tracy Patterson and plenty of other contenders, Katsidis has beat who, 2 of our domestic lads.

Make no mistake Katsidis isn't beating Diaz or JMM

He's clearly a very strong pressure fighter with good ko power and a fairly decent chin, but can be outboxed and banged up and cut,i think khan would have an excellent chance of stopping him, unless he got himself caught on the ropes which would then be a different story, all in all i would prefer to watch him than say mayweather

Katsidis is a strong, bull-like, crude, no-nonsense, super-fit, face-first fighter who will steamroll ya if ya go toe-to-toe with him............ but he'll always struggle against very good slick back-foot fighters

Let's not forget that he almost had Casamayor out of there; Katsidis probably could have won that, had he not charged in there the next round assuming Casamayor was ready for the taking - I predicted before the fight that Casamayor was too good for Katsidis, but he was giving Casamayor hell for a few rounds, and had him over before that left hook took his head off.

Also, he gave Diaz a good rumble, he came off worst almost every round, but it's not like it wasn't competitive.

A very good underrated fighter. He's been beaten by a couple of the top boys, but he's probably improved a lot since - bear in mind, the best he'd met before he was thrown in with one of the world's elite Casamayor, was probably Graham Earl.

I still rate Mitchell highly, he should bounce back, but like a lot of us and Frank included, he really underestimated how good Katsidis really is.
