Darchinyan v Barcelona

Post by belta53 »

Anyone got any thoughts how this one will pan out? The Phillipino is a proper bantamweight and although his record looks patchy it does suggest he is durable and thus could take Vic the distance.

Anyone know how well prepared Barcelona is?, I am overseas thus haven't seen any of the weigh in etc.

I'll be surprised if Barcelona is around to see round 6.

Barcelona lost a tilt at the vacant IBO Superflyweight title in 2006 against Mbwana Matumla.

He also lost against Simpiwe Vetyeki for the vacant IBO Bantamweight title last year.

I doubt that he will do any better tonight, even though Vic is not a South African. 8)

Darch 53.46 Barcelona 53.27
Looking at the pic, it's hard to believe there's only 290grams difference = 3 pairs of jocks

hell yea, how the hell did he stay on his feet. i thought vic was gona cut him in half in the 4th or 5th with a few fantastic body shots. he needed to go there more i felt. too much bombs away stuff. made for good viewing, but very edgy viewing as a vic supporter(as im sure we mostly are)

As it says on the Boxrec fight report, he wouldn't have passed the pre-fight medical if he actually had a broken hand, right?

Great night of Boxing all round I thought, I like Chris Mccullen as a commentator also.

Barcelona has some balls, to take the shots he did and finish the fight is a great effort.

So in Australia you can get medical clearance to fight with broken hand?

No wonder Darch wore 20ozs gloves. No way would hand in plaster fit into 8

Surely you don't think Dr Lou & Alex Lewis would allow an unfit/injured boxer in the ring??
They, as do all doctors, pull them out on the night in the event of high blood pressure.

Broken hand bullshit was covered by media 2 days prior to the fight. Good publicity stunt in 60's but not these days.

Runny nose in pre-fight medical (1 hour before the show kicks off) eliminates them from fighting.

I'll edit/delete clown's comment in Boxrec Wiki, when I insert official results.

I thought the scores were a little wide, how one judge couldn't see Barcelona a single round is beyond me.

But in saying that he didn't deserve any favours considering how many low blows he threw during the fight. Brute called it before hand and Barcelona certainly didn't disappoint.

At the end of the day though it was great to see Vic fighting at home and on a normal Fox show nonetheless. Thanks Fox and a big thanks Vic. :TU:

Yep, he was on there. Looked great against a very limited opponent. Not sure what real comments I could make on style and abilty based on a couple of minutes. He did mention that he plans to go down to Cruiser though, which is a good move for him I reckon, plenty of local fights available too...

he did look good, loved going to the body which i liked. i also think CW would be a good move, but he could potentially go either way i think. will keep an eye on him. just hope at 21 yrs old he dont get pushed into it too fast

He was OZ Am heavyweight champ (90kgs), which is Cruiser in pros. Most heavies would be way too heavy for him.
He's also only 5' 10" which would be disadvantage in heavyweight divvy

I thought it was one of the bestlocal fightnights onfree to airfor quite a while.
I thoght that Ben rabah however was matchedagainst someone who could havebeen seriously injured . Complete mismatch. Iknow it is a nitro format butthe matcmaker must have had his heart in his mouth. I don't like seeing a guy get hit like that.
