Froch latest!

Post by Roars Like Me »

He's on shaky ground saying this, especially the part in red - it's not long ago that Dirrel was considered a gift decision. It's as if he's implying that cheating judges should not be allowed but if that happens to be in my home country then that's ok :shame: I know he doesn't consider the Dirrel fight as a gift but he should realise the comparsions that can easily be drawn from this.

Carl Froch could quit boxing if he loses his next Super Six bout to Arthur Abraham.

Froch is coming off the first defeat of his pro career - a points loss against Dane Mikkel Kessler last month.

And now he needs to beat tough German-based Armenian Abraham to make the semi-finals of Showtime's much-heralded tournament for super-middleweights.

Froch, now 32, says if things go wrong against 'King Arthur' he could walk away from the sport, telling The Sun: "The next fight is all or nothing for me. If it doesn't go my way I will seriously consider retirement because I'm only interested in big title fights. I won't hang around at domestic level."

Doubt still remains over where Froch/Abraham will be held, but the 'Cobra' is adamant it should be on home soil.

He said: "I'm only going to fight on my terms - and I won't be pushed around this time.

"The home-town decisions in this competition have been a disgrace so I am not going to Berlin because there's no chance of getting a verdict. I won't be going anywhere east of Nottingham to fight Abraham and it won't be in Showtime's interests for me to pull out."

Abraham is also coming off the first loss of his professional career, having been disqualified against Andre Dirrell in Detroit last time out.

Let's get things in perspective here...........

Froch's title fight with Pascal could have gone either way at times, he was out-classed by Jermain Taylor and floored in the process, before Taylor's stamina problems and naivety in those final two rounds, saw him being knocked out with seconds remaining. Then he gets a split decision over Dirrel, a fight in which many people thought Dirrell had won and then got comprehensively beaten by Kessler recently.

Froch is one of those fighters that occupy a space between being too good for the European level and a little bit short at world level. Froch has never really progressed in terms of his fighting style, never adjusts to his opponents and the only difference between now and at the start of his career, is that the highter he goes, the more his limited style gets negated by higher quality opponents. Froch has always concentrated on what he is going to do in a fight and has believed that his power, stamina, courage and durable chin will see him through.

I personally believe that Froch has reached his potential and i think the Abraham fight will be another tough one and close one at that, it wouldn't suprise me if Froch lost. He can go on about home town decisions all he likes, but i don't think he would ever beat Kessler, even if he fought him five or six times. Froch has a limited style and in the main it's been found wanting at world level and whilst he can be exciting to watch, he wont be the man to win this super-Six series and would imagine he may retire if it all falls apart against Abraham

If Froch boxes clever against Abraham, he should be able to out work him comfortably IMO

He needs to realise that he isn't in any position to make demands,he has no title, the fight will be in germany where the money is and that's that,as for retiring, he may aswell because if he pulls out of the super six his name will be shit forever.

The longer Froch goes on, the more apparant it is that he's the new Robin Reid. Reid was someone good enough to win a world title, but was never world class. Froch is no different.

I like Froch. But he'd be well advised to shut up and prepare for Abraham, wherever that fight may be. He's not doing himself any favours here.

You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate.

And Froch has a naive (at best) goldfish negotiating for him

Calzaghe would have boxed rings around Froch. In a different class all-together i'm afraid

Completely disagree - ask Froch how much he has earned from boxing from the early days until now :TU: :TU:

Yeah imagine what the best Supermiddleweight of at least the last 12 years would have done to him, that really cements any argument against Froch.

Saying Froch is just above European class is absolutely laughable, Super middleweight is a stacked division, if you match everyone against everyone else Id be amazed if anyone came out undefeated. You don't beat Jean Pascal and Jermaine Taylor unless you are in the World class bracket. Saying Froch beat Taylor only because Taylor gassed is like saying Froch only beat Brian Magee only because Magee got punched in the face. Quixall I don't know what the hell you mean when you say that the fight with Pascal could have gone either way at times, if you mean it was closish early on then you can equally say Calzaghe vs Kessler could have gone either way at times, we all know come the end of those fights there wasn't any dispute in who won.

Also on the Taylor fight, yes Froch was down 4 rounds on 2 judges scorecards but seriously, how did you have it scored. Personally I had him down by 2 rounds, the press row scoring had him around about there and I think the commentators had it around about there too. Your making out like he took a 12 round pummeling and then Carl Thompson style pulled a lucky punch out of the bag, lets get it right Froch deserved that win in a fight that I would imagine you backed him to lose and now your poo pooing it.

A lot of 'wise after the event' merchants have jumped on Froch since the Kessler loss. At the end of the day I'm a Froch fan and I knew a defeat would come one day, Froch has his deficiencies but some of the turd that has been written is just ridiculous (I'm not putting you into that bracket by the way Quixall.)

I said that Froch was inbetween the Euro level and world level, not just above the European level.......

Froch was rocked quite a few times by Pascal and it wasn't an assured performance by any means. The Taylor fight, i would have said that Taylor was between 3 and 4 rounds ahead and in my opinion he definately out-classed Froch. Taylor did and does have stamina issues, but he was plain naive to allow himself to get undone in the last two rounds and it was pure luck that Froch got the knock-out with around 8 seconds of the fight to go. You also failed to mention the Dirrel fight, which i feel Froch lost and so did many others and he was also comprehensively beaten by Kessler. I'm not basing my observations on a comparison to Joe Calzaghe, i just made that comment because the previous poster had mentioned Calzaghe in relation to Froch. I have gone on record on this site, many months ago, before Froch even won a world title and outlined what i saw as his weaknesses and how he would find the world scene very tough to handle. This is what the site is all about, having opinions and your entitled to yours, but i do think that your reaction to my post is rather telling and perhaps being a Froch fan, you are a little too subjective in your comments. I stick by my comments about Froch

Regardless of anyone's feelings, Froch was not lucky to KO Tayor. You can't say 'Well, Taylor was miles better, but that stamina let him down'. Froch was outclassed in terms of skill, maybe. But Taylor couldn't make the final bell. Luck had nothing to do with that win. Taylor may have had the class, but Froch took any judging out of the equation. Froch left it late, but no matter what you think of his skills, he hammered Taylor at the end of that fight.

I just feel that regardless of the stamina issues, Taylor was naive in that he didn't seem to know how to close out the fight. Froch was just throwing bombs and one happenned to land, with seconds remaining. I'll just have to agree to dis-agree on this one

We will, because Froch was coming on strong in those last few rounds. It wasn't as if he threw an eyes-closed haymaker that happened to land.

I like Froch, but I'll happily accept when he's lost, as he did against Kessler. The Dirrell fight, well, you could score that about 4 rounds to either fighter, depending on how you see it. But the Taylor fight shouldn't be up for debate.

EDIT: Sorry SG, this was meant to be in response to Quixall, but for some reason I didn't quote his reply.

But that's boxing, it's great being Sugar Ray for 11 rounds 2 minutes and 45 seconds. But you have to fight till the end.
Very True.....

Iv'e just read your comments on the Katsidis thread, where you agreed with my post on whether Diaz was at world level. The way you answered is how i'd describe my feelings on Carl Froch.

I'm sorry, but that's nonsense. He clearly belongs at world level, as proven by his victories over the likes of Taylor and Pascal AND by his close defeat to Kessler, who's one of the best super-middles around since the division's inception.

I don't care about Froch making knobbish comments from time to time. I like him for what he brings to the ring, not for his talent in oratory. He is a superb warrior with chinks in his armour. If he were a perfect fighter I don't think he'd be so entertaining. Still, I hope he exercises a little more caution than usual against Abraham.
