Hatton: As time goes by

As the Light Welterweight division moves on, the question remains:
Where is Ricky Hatton?

He has not retired... So when will he come back, time is ticking on...

A close friend of mine has relatives in Manchester and he has told me that Hatton is training in the gym...
But he can't shake the excess weight off,
and he can't get back down to Light Welterweight...

I have considered that possibility, but at this point I just don't know...

What do you guys think?

Dan Rafael had some quotes from him the other day, in one of his pieces on ESPN. Ricky basically said he wasn't retired, and that he'd been back in the gym for a while, but recognised that if you're going to fight, you need to be totally dedicated to boxing, and he wasn't sure he was any more. Personally, I think Hatton won't fight again, and I don't blame him. He had a terrific career, there's no point coming back.

I think right now he'd loose against both, he's had a great career, earned a fortune and only lost againsts a pair of GOAT's He should leave it be now.

Seeing as Ricky has his own wonderful training facilities and he has been in boxing from a young age I think you will find he will probably train 2 or 3 times a week until his later years, so I wouldn't take this as a guide to a possible return......
My money is on retirement and establishing a good promotional outfit and continuing his cabaret interests, but nothing surprises you in this game, so a return could be possible in any of the next 5 years!!!!

i miss the big Ricky Hatton nights, he's only 31 and he is well rested now, I just wonder if he could do it one more time, it would have to be a certain type of opponent; a walk forward guarenteed barn burner fight: Juan Diaz, Alfonso Gomez, Miguel Cotto (loses to Foreman), Marcos Maidana. I'd love it if he went out on a win.

I would have expected one sendoff final bout in front of his home Manchester crowd... against a guy who wont give him any trouble.

he's already been more forthright than naz ever was.

he's told us he's still undecided.

it was only last year that naz even gave some kind of explanation as to why he didn't return. :>

31 and only lost to the elite. Why write him off already? He always got fat between fights ffs. Only thing missing from Hatton of only a few short years ago might be hunger due to the millions earn't fighing the 2 best out there at the time.

I think the Pacquiao defeat has affected him more than he cares to admit and he knows that he can't ever rectify that, even if he fought an inferior fighter for a farewell fight and beat him convincingly. I don't think his heart is in it anymore and he knows he is finished really !!!!

I would back Khan to beat him now to be honest

Sounding more retired than not, but says never say never. Some might say "oh he's doing a Naz" I think he's being honest. He's still young and the juices might get going again.

I wouldn't like to see him fight Alfonso Gomez as somebody above suggested. He beat a shell of Gatti and would probably be better conditioned and therefore do the same to Hatton.

Article in my local paper today - says he's happily (at least unofficially) retired - the motivation isn't there - it might come back (he talks about Ryan Rhodes at this point, being in the form of his career)...if the juices come back, he'd come back...and if they don't, then he won't - as the last place you want to be is in a boxing ring he says, if you're not up for it.
He says it's the hardest game in the world, and if you can't be a champion, the next best feeling is to make a champion, and he is enjoying doing that for the forseeable.

Read on boxingnews he would come back for Mayweather.

I think he would be happy just landing a few more digs on him, collecting another big payday, then knocking it on the head.
And I think if it was Mayweather again, he would certainly be up for it, even if he had no chance.


Thing in his favour is apparently Mayweather wants to fight in the UK, and both fighters would sell.

ha ha plus he went away instead of home! Must have lost his confidence in his boxing knowledge.

I would love to see Ricky have one last fight. Ideally it would be someone with a good name and doesnt possess too much power - Juan Diaz?

I don't think he will come back, especially if his promotions take off and things start picking up outside the ring for him.

He's walking about at cruizerweight by the look of it, so some serious pounds to drop and if he is not 100% focused and wanting it, he won't make it.

Not to much of a bad thing, he had some super fights before he retired and didn't step around anyone at the end so nothing to be ashamed of.

Stay retired if you're happy Ricky! Focus on your boxers talents and your promotions.

Ricky has the biggest weight-gain problem since Duran. He absolutely dwarfed Ryan Rhodes.

Seeing them both at ringside for the rhodes fight together made me think hatton v naz at cruiserweight might be the only fight left for ricky now...... Altho nas may have carried his power from feather and ko him...
