A fair enough idea mate and thanks, but I think that's more up BN's street, we're different in our approaches

Aren't you the same T.M.K from the old Boxing Monthly guestbook?I used to post on that, many moons ago! In fact,it was my introduction to internet boxing forums. I used to love that place. I used to go by a few different names.'WBC' was one. Anyway good to see your still going strong
Guilty as charged. Now 30 (probably late teens or early 20's in the days you speak of) and with a lot more cynical-view-points in me.... but same bloke. Good to see youa round too.

Gents,

may I just say what I shame I think it is that when you have the editor of the publuication in question here, at your service, that some of the comments are so "sharp" shall we say? I think you can say anything you want to in regards to BM and Glyn will happily listen, but there's no need for the "attack" approach.

I can actually see the point someone was mkaing about fresh blood, new writers, a new slant on the whole view (etc).... but then again Glyn was correct in his reply about Graham Houston. I am often taken-aback at the extent to which he must have traweld the archives for quotes from the day... I think to myself "HTF did he find that!". Plus of course, you have recently had the BRILLIANT addition of Steve Lillis who has brought a whole new dimension, plus bits from the likes of Gareth A. Davies (whom I never used to be a fan of in the newspapers, but who seems to have found a new style) and Neil Allen is always superb with his trip down memory lane - what that man has witnessed and experienced around the ring could fill several books, I'm sure.

And above all else - the way BM works: there is nothing stopping ANYONE getting published. Simply find a story or interview which is relevant, do a good enough job, and you're in!! The chances are that any reports/previews of big fights will not get you the job because Messers Houston, Farhood, Lillis.... Bunce/Gill/Fletcher etc etc are going to cover it themselves. But if you can find a niche and do a nice little peice - then you can get in there too.

Why not try - bring your OWN input into reality.

:-)

Cheers fella but I really don't need defending! Most of the posters are very constructive and a pleasure to chat with, but the ones with agendas show themselves for what they are very quickly and you can't lose sleep over them.

I tend to buy both Boxing News and Boxing Monthly. I tend to enjoy BM more as it's a great catchup for the month, not as indepth as BN but thats the point isn't it? A different read.

Keep up the good work chaps...

Glyn

I always buy the magazine. Bought Ring a couple of times but it isn't as good in my opinion. I particularly like the rankings section at the back of the mag and keep it with handy whenever a fight is on, especially if one or two of the fighters aren't 100% familiar. A couple of things I always think could help the rankings section is if the fighters ko's were included in their record and maybe their age too. Don't know if anyone else deems this neccessary or whether it would create too much extra work.

Anyway, to you and the team, keep up the good work!

I still enjoy BM, I feel that and BN are a staple diet for any fan, coupled with some of the better websites.

Obviously Boxrec News is the best :TU:

The only pain is obviously the timing of editions in terms of reading about a fight after it's happened, but to be fair most of the time the features and profiles make up for it and make it worth the cash.

A bloody can of pop and a chocolate bar costs a couple of quid these days and lasts a matter of minutes...

I can sit and read BM for an hour or so then place it on the pile with the dozens and dozens I've kept since I started buying it in the early nineties....

Well done to all involved with both publications IMO, for keeping going during some dark days for the print industry...

I buy both without fail and the brilliant fighting fitness magazine too. Boxing monthlys ratings are brilliant and are a great reflection on how the sport in the UK in general is doing. Go back to 95/96 and we had 14 fighters good enough to feature in the top ten throughout the divisions. Now we have about 6/7

One of the most enjoyable recent reads in BM has to be the superb piece written by Farhood on Bernard Hopkins a few months back i.e. brilliantly charting the trajectories of some of the fighters that lost to Hopkins and the argument that it was precipitated by their defeat to Executioner. Those type of critiques are seldom in BN and that is the type of quality that I feel distinguishes BM to BN. Also, coverage of the fights in BM is towers over BN in terms of quality. They are both different offerings and like them both, but I can sometimes have a few WTF moments when reading a BN fight preview or their subsequent analysis of a fight.....

It seems that BN won't be so quick to critisise certain people under their new leadership- not sure if that will be a good thing? I'd hate for it to cease being a trade people and start being a weekly puclication fot certain promoters.

Yes, Tris Dixon has definitely freshened things up though. I'd give him a 'B' so far. I might start a longer thread on the new BN soon.

Glyn last month's editorial on Goldenboy and ESPN was spot-on. I really hope that Goldenboy do not run shows in the UK as you say they are not really promoters - more like facilitators - who just take. And their recent troubles in New York really underline that point.

As for ESPN, I couldnt agree more with you, they have not lived up to the promise that most of us hoped for or expected. Thankfully, I didnt sign up to their offering and have no intention unless they make a serious statement of intent going forward.

It is over a year since the demise of Setanta. There is going to be a return of Saturday night shows on Sky - which is a good thing. Also, the talk of the return of 'Ringside' magazine show is appears to be another step forward. However, the cynical side of me suspects that the real reason for the return of Ringside is to help flog more of Saturday PPV shows - and this is not something to be thankful for (on top of the Sky subscription). I hope I am wrong.
