Katsidis article from the Sunday mail

Mike Coleman from the Courier mail devoted his column to Michael Katsidis this past sunday, in what was a rare sighting for any of the other Australian boxers not named Anthony Mundine or Danny Green.

When I read the column a few things came to mind. First of all, Coleman mentions that he tried to search for the Katsidis-Mitchell fight on TV which I happened to chuckle at and then he mentions that his Youtube search yielded no results. He then mentions that he stumbled on the Katsidis-Earl fight and preceeded to watch that instead. How on earth does a sports journalist for one of Queenslands premium newspapers not know of Queenslander Michael Katsidis prior to his research for this article. It disgusts me that so little is known, even to those in sports journalism, about some of our best and most exciting fighters like Katsidis, Darchinyan and Geale. Nobody outside of the real fans know of our true warriors and the excitement they bring in watching their fights, and the media has a large role in this.

I hope this is the start of more to come. Bring us the real stories and promote the real champions, instead of feeding us the garbage that Mundine has given us for the last decade.

I read the story in sundays paper and enjoyed it.

I think his point was that Katsidis is not known by the general public.

you both make very good points, while it was a pretty good article, the fact he knew very little about rocky is a shame, but then again mike coleman is a very low form of person as a journo(and journo only, i dont know the bloke at all aside from his work) IMO. i have very little time for the bloke, he is one of the ones that seems to sensationalise EVERYTHING. guess that prolly y he supported mundine all this time. but yea his point was valid in that its a shame ppl dont know rocky, but as stewza mentions the media has a HUGE part in that, how many ppl know about dani samuels being the youngest discus world champ EVER, or the one legged bloke that holds some ridiculous world records for downhill speeds reached(skiing and cycling) or the many other examples that are similar, due to the fact the papers and tv only want to show rugby league and union, AFL, soccer and golf. for a nation that is VERY VERY sporting proud we get VERY VERY little coverage in the mainstream media. sometimes i feel that if tehre were more coverage for the lesser known sports then fan attendance as well as participant attendace would increase by a lot...... my 2 cents worth
