Brook v Jennings off

Post by danfoster »

Sorry if replicated another thread but not seen this anywhere else.

I gather that unfortunately Jennings has done his hand so Frank is lining up a WBO world title eliminator for Kell on Feb 13 ... on the undercard of Kevin Mitchell fight (which should be an absolute cracker)

The story is on Frank's site so surprised no-one has commented on it

"Kell will fight Michael Jennings on 3rd July"

Fingers crossed.

Good fight- and a good venue.

However, as the article on the front page mentions, thats 3 pull outs by Brook now. Is he injury prone?

He seems to be a real talent- lets hope that injury doesn't spoil it.

brook is a great talent but for whatever reason he loses all momentum and the last fight - "an international contest" - was dreadful.

Has Brook now been stripped of the British title or did he relinquish it himself?

i want O Donnell to be class, but cant help feel he is just plain overated. Its that defence. Its become so popular to fight "hands down" now its not even frowned upon. Not yet seen a fight where he hasnt taken a few unrequired shots.

I'd pick Jennings to win if he was in his prime, but cotto and inactivity have probably roobed him of a bit. hope im wrong.

Brook vacacted, he's won the Lonsdale outright now anyway.

I thought O'Donnell was moving down to light-welter?

Jennings and Brook is a great fight. I hope it gets on sooner or later because it will be well worth the wait. Domestic match-ups like these are just what the sport needs.

Chorley’s Michael Jennings squares up to Londoner John McDonnell in cracking domestic showdown in Preston on July 3. At stake is the British welterweight title recently relinquished by an injured Kell Brook.
Jennings challenged the mighty Miguel Cotto for the WBO welterweight title in Madison Square Garden last year and was halted in five. It wasn’t one of those draining defeats and Michael has bounced back with two wins to go to 36-2 (17). The only other man to beat him is Midlands puncher Young Muttley on a 12-round split decision in the Midlands.
Clearly, the 32-year-old Jennings is a seasoned, established operator, a man known for his boxing skills and stamina, a man on his own Lancashire turf. He represents a big test for the young, talented McDonnell, 24, who has done nearly everything right in his pro career to date, with only a loss in America spoiling his 23-1 (11) record. The fluid, punch-picking McDonnell, a rangy southpaw, recently held the Commonwealth welterweight title but relinquished to concentrate on an opportunity like this. This is a defining fight for him.
I can see McDonnell building up an early lead as he gets on his toes and darts in and out with quick shots, but Jennings stays cool, waits for the openings and piles it on from the middle rounds. Jennings, for me, comes through.

i dont understand how you can say that jennings isnt good enough for kell, but michael lomax and stuart elwell were deamed good enough to fight for the british title.it seems brooke only pulls out against jennings anyway,he must have really hurt them or even broke them.he seemed spritly enough last friday at the sheffield show though

Brook is really frustrating me his inactivity and lack of class opposition is hindering his development. He should be fighting much more regularly and at a higher class than he is already and imo Jennings would be the perfect yardstick to measure if he can make the next steps up. If this clash had happened a year or so ago when it was supposed to Brook could be looking to push on instead he still has a question mark over his head.

strange how Brok keeps pulling out, its not doing his credibility much good.

Odonnell is a good fght and he has matured a bit since his lone loss.

I rate Jennings as a good British title level fighter, but time is not on is side and I go
for a Odonnell points win

credibility? it's not his fault he's been injured 3 times! brook is desperate for the fight and is gutted with the injuries.
