..a ring magazine list of various bests had barney ross as having the best chin. i had never read this about him before or since and i think it's an odd choice. his record does show his never being kayoed in a career of 82 fights so i guess he had a good one, but he's not a name that would come to my mind, and i see he doesn't appear on anyone's list here.

re:billy graham. an excellent pick. never even knocked off his feet..though there is one questionable kd by kid gavilan in their final fight. a great boxer, but nobody is that clever.

Ray Arcel respected him. Thats a good endorsement. Hes worth looking up.
Guys with 30, 40, 50 fights who stay upright is impressive sure. But these guys who fought every week and always heard the final bell after hundreds of fights puts them in a category of their own.No comparison in my opinion. Even when they may not be fighting the greatest of oposition,the more times you climb the stairs, the better chance you have of getting stretched.
Theres also many lesser known guys who fought great opposition who took everything thrown their way without blinking.
Two guys I knew come to mind.One was Randy Smith who fought every name middle/super middle throughout the eighties and nineties was never stopped.I sparred a million rounds with him and he had a chin like concrete.Another guy was Danny Blake,I fought on the same card with him once or twice.He was really just a blown up middleweight who fought heavyweights. I dont think he was ever rocked at all.

I have said it before and will say it once more.

The best chin ever belonged to Ignacio Ara - Former world rated middleweight and ex European champion- who fought around 180 fights and was never stopped and to my knowlege was not even knocked down, having fought very good fighters including Marcel Thil, Kid Tunero, Ben Jeby, Joe Dundee and Relampago Saguero.

Glad to see that Benny Valger was mentioned. He is a very underated fighter who would be a mega star today.

I never saw him hurt against Hearns. He noticed a punch, calling it hurt has always been an exaggeration. Tommy broke his hand with that punch.

Bennie was a cinderblock, I always viewed it more of hagler using his Boxing skills instead of waging a war he didn't have to after he realized that Briscoe wasn't going anywhere. But Bennie definitely backed him off.

Hagler took the best of Hearns without being hurt and that is fact. What I want to know exactly when was Hagler hurt? What minute and what second?

This is one point that I will absolutely agree. Hagler used his boxing skills and fought a smart fight. No need for Hagler to go to war because he was never in danger, and Hagler knew he was the better boxer/fighter.

Teddy Yarosz, 127 fights, was stopped once because his knee blew out.

"Tex" Cobb, Hagler, Lamotta, and James Toney are among the best I've seen.

Cobb being the best as he had absolutely no defense or boxing skill, but he took all right hands from Earnie Shavers one of the most monstrous puncher's in Heavyweight history, and came back to stop him. Amazing chin.

Of all the fighters that I've watched the majority of their fights. hagler had the best chin I've seen by a significant margin. I never saw him hurt.

I agree, never out, never down,never stopped and never even hurt.

Hearns briefly stunned him, and Eugene Hart seemed to have him hurt and reeling a bit at one point if I recall correctly. He recooperated extremely well, though, and Hart was, in my opinion, among the very hardest hitters in Middleweight history.

Some very strange choices in both the top 10 and the Honorable Mention. Saldivar in particular stands out as a name I wouldn't mention here. Great, great fighter, with good durability, but he was hurt badly on multiple occasions against Seki, who was little more than a good puncher.

Vitali K anyone? has never been knocked down as an amateur or in the paid ranks, and also Carl Froch only the once to date in his amateur and professional career against Jermain Taylor and maybe Arturo Gatti despite being sliced in half by a Micky Ward bodyshot he could absorb a hell of alot punishment and only down 3 times.

The great Sandy Saddler had a terrific chin, too.

I second that, Sandy Saddler is one of the most underrated fighters IMO. He was KO'd once very early in his career, but never again over 150+ fights.

I've never seen Chavez hurt in his prime and Hagler didn't stay around long enough like Chavez either.

Chavez IMO has one of the top 5 best chins ever.
