Cleverly next fight
Re: Cleverly next fight
Opponent is obviously not the best but I don't see any harm in Clev putting the brakes on slightly. He's just doing his exams this summer I think and he's had a pretty rapid rise.

I wonder who will be on the undecard?winkveron wrote:Opponent is obviously not the best but I don't see any harm in Clev putting the brakes on slightly. He's just doing his exams this summer I think and he's had a pretty rapid rise.
Re: Cleverly next fight
Another easy job for Cleverly
Re: Cleverly next fight
He's 22(?) and had 19 fights and is on the brink of world level. He's done that whilst studying for a degree. I think that is majorly impressive. No need to throw him in there with Pascal, Dawson or Hopkins just yet!Coco wrote:Another easy job for Cleverly

It's not like he is European champion and should fight people of that level!!winkveron wrote:He's 22(?) and had 19 fights and is on the brink of world level. Perhaps he should be dropped down to 'Commonwealth' level again!
In fairness this fella could easily be regarded as an unknown African!!
Re: Cleverly next fight
Are Frank Warrren and Dean Powell building a record or a fighter? Will this fight help Cleverly get better? I haven't seen the opponent, so I don't know.

Re: Cleverly next fight
Cleverly has done well but Frank knows its too early for all the big fights.
Plus another year or so and we can get the big Cleverly vs Bellew fight we all want. Be interesting to see how they both progress as ATM I reckon Clev has the advantage

Re: Cleverly next fight
That the European title is losing any credibility it might once have had.
Re: Cleverly next fight
Ngumbu has earned his crack at the title by losing his last 2 fights.
This is a really poor match.

Surely he could faced better opponent!
Re: Cleverly next fight
Unbeaten Welsh hot-shot Nathan Cleverly defends his major European title against French challenger Douglas Ngumbu on July 10.
Light-heavyweight Cleverly, ranked No. 3 by the WBO, is still only 23 but has established himself as one of our brightest prospects and also one of our most intelligent, with a maths degree on his CV. He held the British and Commonwealth belts before graduating to the European with a five-round stoppage of Italy’s experienced Antonio Brancalion earlier this year at Wembley to stretch his record to 19-0 (9). This is his first defence.
Ngumbu brings over solid 20-2 (9) stats and went the full 12 rounds with South African golden boy Isaac Chilemba two fights ago in South Africa before dropping the points. Last time out in December he ventured to Germany and held unbeaten local man Igor Mikhalkin to a majority after eight rounds, which essentially means he was jobbed. Unfortunately, it also means that Ngumbu has lost his last two, although he squeezes in a timely warm-up on Saturday.
The 28-year-old visitor looks well-travelled, capable and durable but the class and ambition lies with the tall and rangy Cleverly, who is close to a world title shot and all set for a clear if hard-earned points win.

Not a criticism, but bennie, whats the logic behind your posts?
Are they from build-up articles?
