Slap gets frustrated if you talk about any of them, and I know he's reeling from this Ronan Keating scandal so let's cut him some slack :TU:

Interesting - I come on and say that Macklin puts Barker to the sword and I am labelled as some kind of jingoistic flag waver. Brits come on and say that Barker beats Macklin/Duddy/Lee/the World and that is merely well considered boxing logic!

I have no need or desire to "defend" anyone - I am just providing a little balance to the hypocritical myopic mulch that is posted here everyday.

Hook asks me which English boxers I do rate - I answer - he comes back rabbiting on about Eoghan Quigg!

I've leave it at that.

Barker v Macklin is a natural and should be happening right about now. I've no doubts about Barker taking the match, but Macklin doesn't seem that interested. Shame because it's a 50/50 match that Britain should see.

PS with all three English boxers you made excuses for why they would do well, rather than picking them on their merits....."weak division" etc etc...

never said he did. I was asked which English fighters I thought could go past British level - I the ones I thought could be in with a shout of a world title and then gave reasons. Still not happy.

This is now becoming tedious and boring.

Yes but p4p all three are better than John Duddy and Andy Lee! Are we talking stardom or ability here Slap?

They just don't have their following..........it's the Irish effect. Don't knock it :)

we are talking ability. None of them are stand outs in their weight division. Agree or disagree.

Disagree....

Murray has the ability to mix in world circles IMO, as does Munroe. Title shots at least.

...and let me reiterate again that I am neither English or Irish.... :)

However, Lee is a talent, I'll give you that. I do like him, but he will fall short if he fights either Maclkin or Barker IMO.

Agree to an extent, Murray will get a world title shot, doubt Rhodes will and Munroe as his, but all 3 are capable of winning a world title.

Duddy's chance as gone. Lee could still surprise us and Macklin has the potential, always has but never fulfilled it

thats fair enough. I respect your opinion. I dont agree it though. I genuinely think that Barker isnt half as good as people think he is - always said it, but only since he got a hiding off Belgacham have people stopped belly laughing when I say that Duddy or Lee, never mind Macklin, would stop Barker. If other supposedly respected posters want to put that down to "Paddy bile" or Xenophobia or jingoism then so be it but it truth they are merely highlighting their own hypocrisy.

Duddy is shite. Belghecham didn't give Barker a hiding.

I really hope this happens, should be a cracker! Both are in top form boxing brilliantly and climbing up to World level. I think Barker could win using his boxing skills to outbox Macklin make him miss and counter, sticking to the outside using his reach and speed advantages to frustrate Macklin, making him easier to hit. With Backlin winning closely but clear on points.

It was almost a signed deal, an Aussie guy over on Australia forum is fairly close to Geales camp and he was certain it would go ahead. Geale even had it up on his official website that he was fighting Macklin in the late summer in OZ so don't know what happened in the end. I don't think much of Geale myself, he is decent but very beatable.

I've never really seen the same potential in Macklin that others seem to. I'd pick both Barker and Lee over him.

None of the above are immune to off-nights or the occassional subpar performance so it's no sure thing picking a winner, but at a push I'd go with Barker over Macklin with Barker/Lee even.
