Looks to be a good fight, clearly FW has more confidence in Bellow than Cleverley

I stand corrected mate.

Up until yesterday afternoon, Chilemba was just one of several names being mooted.

Good luck Tony. Meant to say "Hello" at Upton Park, but you looked busy with Kell.

Decent opponent, by the looks of it- beat the guy Cleverley is fighting.

Never very easy to tell with Africans.

Yeah.. dominated Adamu as well from the looks of it, so would be good for Bomber to win in devastating fashion - which i don't doubt he will!

You would think the European champion would be fighting better opponents than the Commonwealth champion, but I guess that's not the case. If this fight actually did happen it would be a very nice step up for the Bomber and a win over Chilemba would be nearly as impressive as anything Cleverly had done. Cleverly's next fight is disappointing, even for a debut Euro defense.

Chilemba's ranked #11 by the WBO so it's a standard Warren move.

Better opponent than Cleverly, though I've no problem with his opponent if Murat is after.

Always good to see Tony in action, especially in Preston- however who is Isacc Chilemba? How is he relevant to British boxing? How is beating him going to tell us anything we don't already know about Bellew and what would a loss do to Bellews career (not that thats likely)?

I hate these daft matches. OK its for the commonwealth title and the guys record is statisically impressive, but still plenty more relevant matches could be made domestically.

Who's gonna' be going..?

Massive array of talent on the bill.

£30 tickets and you'll get to see Swifty, Beefy, Selkirk and Ronnie Heffron. Not forgetting Swifty is fighting John Simpson!

A GREAT FFN.

It's a nice venue, I've been to amateur shows there a few times. A proper dedicated events hall, not just a leisure centre, so good views etc.

I agree mate, but saying that what are bellews team supposed to do when 7 out the top 10 in the uk have knocked a fight back with bellew already. I would much rather see bellew v the likes of fry, dilks, mclintosh, mckenzie, oakey, and many more, but all these fighters have oppenly said they will not fight bellew for 1 reason or another.

Good test for the bomber, but hopefully some 1 English will grow a set and except a fight

must b a horrible job for Powell, as a friend of Tonys I hear and see things some others don't know about, and earlier on in bellews career I was criticall of dean for not making good matches for bellew. But I hold my hand up and say it's not deans fault, some fighters and am not going to name names, have been offered more money than they have ever earned for any fight, and they have still turned it down. What more as a match maker can u do than offer people big Money and a chance To win a belt?

Hopefully bellew will go for the British title in his next few fights, and then if people don't want a shot at that and the commonwealth then they shouldn't b in the boxing game.

Yep I know, I've spoke to dean lots of times about this. Because I use my real name on the forum whenever anyone used to give him stick he used to call me to vent his rage ha ha....

Funny thing is Tony with his KO% is probably going to find it very difficult to get any worthwhile matches till he gets into a position where they have to fight him ie title fights. Then he's going to need the savvy he should have picked up along the way. Vicious circle.

Liverpool puncher Tony Bellew gets a true test when he defends his Commonwealth light-heavyweight title against Johannesburg's Isaac Chilemba at Preston on July 3.
"Bomber" Bellew, who won the title with a first-round stoppage of Ghana's Atoli Moore last time out in March, has raced to 13-0 (9) as a pro in the wake of long and decorated amateur career but steps up against Chilemba, a 12-round fighter with all the savvy and sharpness one expects from a leading pro out of South Africa, where they hail him the "Golden Boy".
Chilemba, 14-1 (8), holds a one-sided win over Charles Adamu, a man well-known and respected on these shores, and has done the full 12 rounds in his last three outings, all of them wins, whereas Bellew has never done more than six rounds, testimony to his power and finishing ability of course. However, Chilemba's chin looks as solid as his stamina. His only loss came by decision in a meaningless six-rounder back in 2007.
True, Bellew carries the edge in power but the 23-year-old Chilemba is a strong, proud man who will not roll over. We must expect a long night for Bellew and a chance to witness his boxing side, his patient side, his ability in the championship rounds.
Tony gets home on points.
