Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
Tony Ayala is a joke. i prefer guys to have fought actual competition before putting them on any all time list.
Lists are always subjective. I don't see how Hearns could be excluded from a list like this. Chico, Cuevas, SRR, Marvin Johnson, Marciano & Tyson would all be in my top 20 as well.
I'll have to admit that I don't know who George Odwell is.

I agree, get that rapist the hell out of the list, he never KO'd anybody except Joe Schmos . .
Not a bad list, but not putting Langford in the top 10 (he's in my top 5) is a little crazy, he should definitely be ranked over Foreman on a lb for lb punchers list.

Gomez was more of an accumulation puncher imo.
Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
I would put Artie Levine on that ist and I would put him in the top 25 or so.
Ayala should go.

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
Soe of these guys are difficult to rate becasue they are in different weight divbisions.
However, I would certainly take out Satterfield, Sheppard,Odwell, Ayala,Benn and probably Jeffries.
Would replace them with Hearns,Gomez, Tyson, Ketchel; they should all be top 20. You could make a decent case for Robinson Arguello, Leonard,Hagler,Monzon and Lennox Lewis being in the top 40.
Max Baer chould be top 40, but #2 all-time pound for pound is ridiculaus.

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
Leonard-Scored some devastating knockouts. KO of Davey Boy Green about as brutal as it gets. Blew out Andy Price who beat Cuevas and Palomino. Hit hard enough to stop Benitez, Hearns. Past his prime he stopped LaLonde who was much bigger. Made Hagler back up, which almost never happened. Had a high ko % against very good competition. Oh but thats right, some people don't like him therefore he didn't hit hard.
Hagler-Stopped Roldan,Hearns,Mugabi etc. hurt just about everyone he fought. High ko % against decent competition.
Monzon-Stopped Benevenuti twice, Griffith, Napoles.

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
SRL is 1 of my fav boxers ever but 2 put him inda top 20 is silly! Hagler overwelmed so many good oppenents but he wasn't a massive big hitter. Same wiv Monzon although he did hava hard punch. But not top 20...Ambling Alp wrote:Leonard-Scored some devastating knockouts. KO of Davey Boy Green about as brutal as it gets. Blew out Andy Price who beat Cuevas and Palomino. Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
Actually I didn't say top 20. I said you could make a case for them being in the Top 40.
They could all hit hard. A more recent fighter like Duran was #22 on the list and nobody seemed to have a problem with that. Surely these guys should be considered for the Top 40. Obviously there are a lot of guys that are pretty close.
I'm not which Jackson you are referring to. I don't think Peter Jackson proved he should be Top 20 of All-Time or even top 40. Julian Jackson maybe top 40, but top 20 seems like a stretch.

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
It seems that the fighters of the last fifty or so years are overrated when it comes to compiling the recent hardest p4p punchers lists. For one thing, many of the more recent fighters have high knockout percentages largely due to the fact that their bouts were more likely to be stopped than bouts taking place fifty or a hundred years ago. One should also consider the fact that many of the old-timers fought an amazing number of top fighters and relatively few "stiffs," unlike many modern fighters. As a result, terrific punchers such as Sam Langford, Mickey Walker, Wes Ketchell and Hal Hoshino have been underrated in recent years.

how about naseem hamed
Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
Edwin Rosario should be listed in any p4p punchers list in my opinion.

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
I agree. You have to consider the era. Fights used are stopped earlier now than they used to be. You have to look at the level of competition on a case by case basis. KO% is sort of like batting average in basebasll. It gives you a place to start, but you have to look at other factors as well.Chuck1052 wrote:It seems that the fighters of the last fifty or so years are overrated when it comes to compiling the recent hardest p4p punchers lists. There is no doubt Ko percentages are incredibly overrated nowadays. My favorite example of how irrelevant that is would be Ike Williams or on the other side of the coin Pillowfist Vitali. But that isn't the issue with this list.

There are some guys from way back should atleast be consideedr. Paul Berlanbach and Georges Carpentier.
Terry McGovern was listed at #29, but should be a bit higher.

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
I was compiling a list a bit ago. I just fizzled out with it. Lists are always subjective and i gravitate more towards fighters who i have seen fight over and over as opposed to someone like paul berlenbach who no doubt was a huge puncher. Though there are some obvious exceptions.
In no order, my top 40 is
McGovern
Ike Williams
Dempsey
Fitzsimmons
Armstrong
Liston
Danny Lopez
Wilde
Galaxy
Rafael marquez
Hamed
Rosario
Julian Jackson
Gans
Bowe
Simon brown
Foster
Rodrigo valdez
Lennox
Ketchel
Zarate
Olivares
Saddler
Corrales
Arguello
Cuevas
Trinidad
Duran
Mugabi
McClellan
SRR
Marvin Johnson
Hearns
Louis
Tyson
marciano
Foreman
Langford
Shavers

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
Not a bad list, but Trinidad & Bowe jump out at me. Both were very capable punchers, but a top-40 all-time, period, should be more exclusive than to include guys like that.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I was compiling a list a bit ago. I’m curious of why you single out Trinidad and Bowe, why? Because imo they were legit punchers. They probably lack boxing skills, but they were nonetheless fearsome punchers. What about Hammed, Shavers, Valdez, Mugabi, and Cuevas? They were as limited as Trinidad and Bowe, in fact I would rank Trinidad and Bowe ahead of all of them in a p4p list. Should they be excluded too?

Re: Hardest P4P Punhcers List
It's a pound-for-pound punchers list. What does talent & being limited have to do with anything?
