Right...who next for Khan?

Post by dondada »

http://news.boxrec.com/news/2010/i-want ... laims-khan

Seeing as the first quality (as admitted by the candid Roach elsewhere) of potential Khan's opponents has been lack of a punch, has he now ran out of this type of fellow?

All the names mentioned here seem very capable.

Where would you take him if you were the Field Marshal of Khan's Army? :P

Katsidis is a lightweight and he wouldn't be as effective at 140 so to me that would be a cop out of an opponent. The fight that has to be made next for Khan is Maidana. Khan has already dodged him once and it would shut a lot of people up if he took on the Argentine in his next fight. He has the beating of him but he is going to have to take the risk of getting in with a big puncher at some stage, he can't keep dodging them.

But is Maidana available and fit to fight? Who knows how long he will be out with the back injury. He might not be ready in time for Khan's next fight. I think Katsidis is more than an acceptable fight in the meantime.

they're not going to use khan as a patsy when he is the cash cow of the pair, and he would clearly beat ortiz from what ive seen of ortiz's last two fights.

he's still the one they want to come thru that bit more.

after they've made some money out of khan of course. ;;-)

I think he should fight Bradley. At the end of the day he's suceptable and chinnable by anyone with a dig from domestic level all the way up to world class.

He hasn't got the makings of a long career. There seems to be a matter of time feel to his performances. Someone is going to push the button again- and its probably more likely to be someone who he isn't worried about.

I think Maidana is an easy fight, and it would be a stinker too.

Least Bradley will be able to close range effectively.

I forgot Maidana was injured, the only link I could find was dated the middle of May saying he could be back in a matter of weeks but it could be months. Didn't Katsidis also say he wanted an extended rest period after fighting Mitchell as it was one of his longest and toughest training camps in the lead up. It is now 8 weeks to the 31st of July and nothing has been signed, do you think there will be enough time for Katsidis to prepare for a fight at a different wieght? I don't. Oh and don't roll those eyes at me

I've said it before & I've said it again: Ortiz is the most dangerous bloke out there for Amir. Also, I think Autobarn's nailed the gist of what Goldenboy/HBO want: good-looking hard-hitting Mexican (well, Mexicanish). Who are they going to make more money out of, a British fighter of Asian descent or a Yank Hispanic? No-brainer, that one.

I'd pick Ortiz to take Khan --because he's got the handspeed/footspeed to get to Amir & the punch to take him out when he does-- but couldn't ever see Ortiz beating Maidana (especially after their first fight, it's got to get in your head a little) whilst I'd make Khan a fairly heavy favourite to stand Maidana on his head (all the brawn, nowhere near enough brains or defensive savvy).

So, as to Mr McNeilly's question: if I were Freddie & co., I'd go with Juan Diaz, if he somehow outlasts Juan Manuel Marquez in their upcoming rematch. He's about five-five, can't punch & Marquez has permanently dented that chin already IMO. Young, Hispanic, non-puncher, former multi-belt champion, hittable, beatable & like I said should he do the unexpected he'll be coming off a career-best win over a legend. Ta-DAH! But like I said, Roach must be keeping his fingers crossed that Diaz outlasts JMM.

Diaz said he was staying away from 140 after Malignaggi and plans to concentrate on the lightweight division. He looked flabby and slow at the weight but I suppose if a nice bit of cash was dangled in front of his face, he would have no problem stepping back up to face Khan. As Datsue implied, JMM has turned Diaz into damaged goods and it would be an easy nights work for Khan.

i think theres enough time for katsidis to prepare at 140, he didn't have a tough fight against mitchell, but i see your point, he would still be ripped against khan at 140, jus a bit slower, i think khan will blow him away. also this would be a huge fight for katsidis and one that he would get big money for and icdoubt he would turn down.

I think the route is really simple for Khan.........

He just has to unify the division and fight Bradley, Alexander and Maidana.

Once he has done that and given that he is successful, he can then move up to welterweight. As daft as it sounds now, he could be in a position to face Mayweather in 3 or 4 years time, given that Mayweather hasn't retired. I personally don't see Bradley, Alexander or Maidana giving Khan much trouble. The only chance they have is if they catch him flush and that's always a possibility, especially with Maidana. Once he moves up to welterweight a lot of the current crop will have gone off the boil or moved up another weight divsion. The reason i see Mayweather as a potential opponent is that he will still be at a fantastic standard, even when he is 35 or 36 yeasr of age and he has always said he wanted to fight in Britain. This would be his chance to fight at wembley stadium, make a ton of money and beat Khan, who by then would have something of a name, if he were to unify the light-welterweight division.

This could actually happen

it's definitly possible, mayweather will retire atleast another two times in his career then come back for big pay days. to be honest i think khan can unify the division, i think he beats katsidis with ease in july..then fights maidana in maybe october who i think is hugely overrated, khan would stop him midway through the fight and make him look silly, his chin aint all that either, thne bradley or alexander next year in unification fights which are very winnable, i dont think alexander is a big start like some think, he is very good but i think khan could outbox him, same with bradley i think khan could nick a decision

I don`t understand why alot of people here are seemingly happy with Khan facing Katsidis :witzend:

The guy is a lightweight ... surely a light-welter world champion should defend the title against worthy challengers from the same weight?

Katsidis has fallen short of the very best at lightweight .. its just another gimmee fight for Khan as far as I`m concerned :shame:

Khan would be too quick for Katsidis and pot shot him all night, resulting in a late stoppage for Khan
