Re: What Am I Watching?
Perhaps I am breaking the rules a little as both are current fighters, but I want to see someone guess mine.

Re: What Am I Watching?
You're watching Eric Lucas getting pulled out of the fight with Danny Green
Year: 1999
Division: Jr. Middleweight
Fighter A's Record: 17-0-0 (17 KO's)
Fighter B's Record: 39-2-0 (24 KO's)
Particulars:
Hot-shot youngster, on the way up, decisions more experienced, less-celebrated veteran. The winner would burn out over the next three years, while the loser, much older than his conqueror this night, would not taste defeat again for almost ten years.

Sounds a lot like Fernando Vargas and Winky Wright. I never saw that fight, did most people agree with the decision?

Re: What Am I Watching?
That's the fight, yes. I don't remember the general reaction off-hand, but had it for Vargas by a point on one occasion, & two points on another. I remember thinking Vargas nicked it, but it was an each-way bet --- until you consider who the celebrated youngster with the, '0' to protect was ;)jezzamundo wrote:Sounds a lot like Fernando Vargas and Winky Wright. Very tight fight. I haven't actually scored it in years, though.

YEAR: 1998
DIVISION: JR WELTERWEIGHT
FIGHTER A: 21-1
FIGHTER B: 28-1
HINT: Underated brawl that saw fighter A dropped twice in the 1st round, but rally to stop fighter B in the 5th on body shots.

Damn. I knew the second I saw the description which fight it was. Used to have it on an old VHS tape. Roy Jones is at ringside &, yes, it is indeed one of the more under-rated bouts from that era. Tszyu surely owns the fastest-swelling eye in history, after that fight. He looked like this guy >>>

Someone uploaded a Russian broadcast of it just recently. (minus the 1 1/2 rounds) Hadn't seen it in awhile either.

Thread necromancy:
Year: 1980
Division: Super-feather
FIGHTER A) 27-1
FIGHTER B) 68-5
The loser gives the winner nightmares with his speed & southpaw stance, but the body beating he absorbed as he stood inside (& some shots to the head that would've felled a horse) takes its toll & Mickey Duff pulls his man out after eight. Only just watched this meself, & was astonished that I'd never heard anyone speak of this fight before.

Arguello vs Boza Edwards
Re: What Am I Watching?
The year 1950
Fighter A - 2 time world champion in his second tenure
Fighter B - Undefeated British Empire champion
A good fight with both guys excellant inside fighters. Fighter B wins a tight decision after pulling it out late against the older fading champion.
