Williams vs Leapai on June 30
Williams vs Leapai on June 30
Looks like Danny Williams will fight on. He will travel to Australia and take on streaking Samoan born prospect Alex Leapai (http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer).
I think it's a shame that Danny has chosen to continue fighting. He is obviously shot and will most likely be knocked out yet again.
Thoughts?

Alex Leapai v Danny Williams
I really hope this isn't true, but it's being talked about on the Australian board.

It would be nice for Danny to retire as Interim WBO Oriental champion.

I'm sure that's the title he always dreamed about winningjameswilson wrote:It would be nice for Danny to retire as Interim WBO Oriental champion.

Looks like Danny has topped the 'Shortest retirement' list, just pipping Floyd Mayweather.

Let`s not forget that the guy has to earn a living.
If he can pick up a lazy wad for fighting a bloke down under, why not. He has been in the game long enough to know how to survive. A lot of people take FAR less money for going into the ring for a guaranteed hiding. Who knows, he may even beat the fella.

Hoping he realizes if he wins the title, he's only allowed to eat steamed rice from then on.crusader wrote:I'm sure that's the title he always dreamed about winningjameswilson wrote:It would be nice for Danny to retire as Interim WBO Oriental champion.
Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
In the midst of a few beatdowns he'll probably pull out the odd kayo of witless padded-record-up-and-comers whereby he could still be fighting in 5 years.
I'm not sure Fury could knock him out.

John Ruiz holds the shortest retirement record. Danny vouched he would retire if he lost prizefighter. I wonder if he's broke.

Common sense in there if he can keep earning though. Don't owt about the opponent? I fear the old lad is skint. As British champion - Prizefighter was a curious move.

I'm sure uncle Croucher can help them with a WBF belt
Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
he would have been in much better shape career wise if he'd kept his weight down after the gammer fight.

Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
IF .. its true that hes getting 20k for it then too right he should take it , the guy hes fighting aint anything special in the slightest , he lost to colin wilson ffs , id take any of the following to ko this guy , Chisora , Audley , Fury , Dallas , Price , Larry etc etc , Sexton would stop him despite being not particularly heavy handed , Rogan would too shall i go on , admittedly Danny wouldnt beat any of the mentioned guys either but Williams can still punch , i think williams will be a 60-40 to lose but he can win this and for that sort of money i dont see why he shouldnt go for it , sure hes going to head hunt and go to knock Williams out but its probably just as possible for williams to knock him out, i had never heard of him before today but im fully editing title bout with all upto date records for the entire world and trying to make it accurate and happened to have researched him this morning before seeing this thread , i agree that i want to see Danny williams retire , but c'mon 20 k for this , ill see if i can dig up a youtube link for you .
first one i found but theres plenty more once you go to this one .

Damian - Leapai has never been close to being legitimately knocked out and saying the likes of Tom Dallas and Sam Sexton would Ko him? Leapai is a good fighter whose been learning as he goes along - His strengths are his aggressiveness, punch and his durability and he - like a lot of south sea islanders - is a proper heavyweight. He will come forward and stand on Danny's feet and push him back and thats has always been the way to beat Danny Williams. This is an excellent fight for Australian heavyweight boxing but like most posters - wish Williams would stick to his word and retire.

Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
Why on earth not? Something to do with neither UK nor Samoa being Oriental countries? No, scratch that. Bob Mirovic and Shane Cameron once fought for the IBF African title, so it must be OK. It must be that Williams and Leapai lie outside the long, proud rankings list of Oriental heavyweights.AntonS wrote:FYI, WBO Oriental title was not approved
