Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
ok granted ive not seen him have to take a big punch so cant maybe go as far as say he can be sparked , but what i meant was his style makes him easily able to be countered , hes not fought fighters who are as good as many of the top brits , hes definately a come forward type but i seriosly think he can be caught flush , maybe then we will see how good his chin is , i can just see him walking straight onto a big counter , maybe he will be too aggressive for williams , but for 20k , hes gonna fancy his chances , for 20k id get in the ring with him , and ive not fought since i was 16 so its hardly surprising that danny has accepted this offer .Carlos-Wigan wrote:Damian - Leapai has never been close to being legitimately knocked out and saying the likes of Tom Dallas and Sam Sexton would Ko him? Please!damianhucker1 wrote:IF .. its true that hes getting 20k for it then too right he should take it , the guy hes fighting aint anything special in the slightest , he lost to colin wilson ffs , id take any of the following to ko this guy , Chisora , Audley , Fury , Dallas , Price , Larry etc etc , Sexton would stop him despite being not particularly heavy handed , Rogan would too shall i go on , admittedly Danny wouldnt beat any of the mentioned guys either but Williams can still punch , i think williams will be a 60-40 to lose but he can win this and for that sort of money i dont see why he shouldnt go for it , sure hes going to head hunt and go to knock Williams out but its probably just as possible for williams to knock him out, i had never heard of him before today but im fully editing title bout with all upto date records for the entire world and trying to make it accurate and happened to have researched him this morning before seeing this thread , i agree that i want to see Danny williams retire , but c'mon 20 k for this , ill see if i can dig up a youtube link for you .
first one i found but theres plenty more once you go to this one .

Leapai is a good fighter whose been learning as he goes along - His strengths are his aggressiveness, punch and his durability and he - like a lot of south sea islanders - is a proper heavyweight. He will come forward and stand on Danny's feet and push him back and thats has always been the way to beat Danny Williams. This is an excellent fight for Australian heavyweight boxing but like most posters - wish Williams would stick to his word and retire.
If Colin Wilson can beat him then hes capable of tripping over a banana skin in the shape of danny williams , ive not seen that particular fight , would be interesting if anyone has a link .

Team Leapai jumped the gun. Williams didn't take the fight.

was the 20k offer true , if it was who could blame Williams for taking it but as hes refused it im guessing there was no such money on offer , maybe he really is staying retired , just to point out , on the australia and pacific forum theres also mention of interest in Leapai taking on Sam Sexton , is it just talk or any truth in it ?
Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
I doubt he would've been offered 20k for WBO Oriental title & Interim at that.
IMO, 5 at most

The full 12 rounds with his fight with Wilson was on youtube as were his fights with Szgeti, Briggs, DeMori and I think Kirkby alongside a few others - he is basically a poor mans Tua but good enough for Williams at their respective stages of their careers.damianhucker1 wrote: ok granted ive not seen him have to take a big punch so cant maybe go as far as say he can be sparked , but what i meant was his style makes him easily able to be countered , hes not fought fighters who are as good as many of the top brits , hes definately a come forward type but i seriosly think he can be caught flush , maybe then we will see how good his chin is , i can just see him walking straight onto a big counter , maybe he will be too aggressive for williams , but for 20k , hes gonna fancy his chances , for 20k id get in the ring with him , and ive not fought since i was 16 so its hardly surprising that danny has accepted this offer .

Do us a favour and stop posting crap like this. You aint some noob down the pub spouting off - you obviously know your boxing and it is offensive to read it on here - you know and we know that the reason Danny Williams could have been offered 20 grand is because he has earned an elevated status in boxing where he can command purses like that as an ex heavyweight title contender and British and Commonwealth champion - and he also earned it by knocking the shite out of 16 stone Americans and eastern European journeymen for a lot less than twenty grand. Heavyweights by the way with would pan the crap out of many of us in a round or two - never mind someone who can punch like Leapai and is considered a decent prospect.but for 20k , hes gonna fancy his chances , for 20k id get in the ring with him , and ive not fought since i was 16
I'll be honest and say I wouldn't entertain the thought of going in with Leapai at any price - you might but you obviously don't mind the thought of liquidised food for a few months for the 15 seconds the fight would last.

Recently, when a Perth based trainer was caught entering Indonesia with OZ 250k, I asked our Indonesian contributor what that would buy him over there.J wrote:a rarity an aussie with a sense fo humour..i like it (just playing)AntonS wrote:When negotiating with Yanks & Poms we like to deal in Indonesian Rupiah.J wrote:maybe 20 k aussies dollars which equates to ..hang on got check the exchange rates...............

Not much he replied. Just a nice big house, with servants quarters & new 4-W drive
Hence the reason Bali is popular holiday destination for Aussies

I fully understand what your saying , but i would get in the ring with david haye for 20 k
No im not a proper heavy , im a blown up super featherweight lol , so we all know id get fvcked up , the point i was making , which you have already pointed to , is that if he was offered 20k its more than hes had in many of his fights , who could blame him for taking one last pay day , its all irrelivant as its been said that he refused the fight , but i think what you were trying to say is that 20k isnt much for getting in the ring with a big hitter and possibly ending up drinking through a straw , it may not be worth it to you , you may be well off etc but to someone of my background with kids to support etc , id fight anyone on the planet for 20 k , so no its not rubbish , i understand you may be on more than 20k a year so 20k doesnt sound as much to you , but the best job ive ever had was only 16k a year with the most part being warehouse work were id be lucky to make 12k ,
In short , i fully get your point , but aimed at myself it would be an incorrect evaluation , us that have had a rougher upbringing dont have the privileged lifestyle that some of you on here may have .

I did come across as a bit pompous and I am going to apologize for that but you know - Its not like Danny Williams has gone down the job centre and been offered twenty grand purses - he has put himself in that position to command those kind of purses by beating some very tough guys including Mike Tyson - you appreciate that as much as the rest of us so I find it hard to understand why you would say something like that - I expect 'man in the pub' to say something that daft when the reality is most of them couldn't do a minute on the bag without retching. Not that I am saying you are one of those guys - I am sure you are a tough guy who can box but there is a difference between a tough guy who can box and a guy who can get in the ring with a proper heavyweight and not take an enormous amount of punishment in a very short space of time. Danny Williams has earned the privelege to get in the ring for what you consider a decent sum of money.
Now nobody says 'Pffth - Orlando Bloom, I would star in 'Lord of the Rings' for a million quid' or 'Pffth, 250 grand, I'll get on centre court with Roger Federer' most people appreciate there is a high level of skill involved in these pursuits that the ordinary person is unable to attain but people seem to be able to say it about boxers and boxing and what it does is cheapen the achievements of what these men are actually capable of and what they have done. For me they earn every penny of any huge purse they make and they have often got to that position by fighting pretty dangerous guys for a lot less than a fortune. We on here should know better than to make 'man in the pub' statements about boxing. It's not about you and it certainly is not about me or anyone else so I don't know why you would make that statement when you know there is no chance of Mundine and Khodder giving you the call to fly down under to square off with Leapai.
I am not going to divulge much into my upbringing as I don't want to get into 'four Yorkshiremen' territory but I can assure you it is every bit as working class as yours - probably moreso - and I am sure it is not all that big a deal amongst the patrons of these forums who have probably mostly grown up in similar circumstances or a lot worse. I am lucky I had two parents and a dad who always worked - right up to the age of 65 and is now on a state pension. As for myself - I bet there are few who are earning less than me as I work here in China!

Re: Williams vs Leapai on June 30
Anyone wondering about Tarquin (I think we can drop the Carlos-Wigan alias for now) knows he had a damn hard upbringing.
As he tells us a lot, Eaton college had 4 sets of steps between his dorm and the canteen, and kiss chase during sports periods could get a bit nasty.
Anyway I don't want to divulge too much but just ask yourself this. Does this look like a pompous man?

If you remember the times before tiffin and lights out, kiss chase only got hard when you were doing the chasing - and publically outing my real name of Tarquin - I thought that WAS OUR SECRET!
