was doing a bit of reading from a book Jim posted me actually noice one mate

thought you might enjoy a few q's to test the grey matter so made a few notes and here ya go!

i'll leave em up for a day or so before giving you the answers so everyone who wants to can have a bash! enjoy!

And no, I don't have the book in front of me.

1 Marvin Hart he was 5'8" I think.
2 Don't know, George Carpentier at a guess.
3 Harry Greb
4 Ted 'Kid' Lewis
5 Benny Leonard
6 ??
7 Mickey Walker
8 Won on a foul?

Marvin Hart was 5'7" and Tunney was born in New York. Tunney's wife also ended up in a mental home in Chesham Bucks, if I remember rightly.

I havent a clue about the Henry Armstrong one.

to save on any discussion over harts heigtht ist not him but id he was 5.7 he deserves a share of the spoils!

Tommy Burns? I thought hart was the smallest, but maybe there was someone with a claim to the or a title.

Henry Armstrong's real name was Henry Jackson. Interestingly, Tunney's daughter murdered her husband in this country.

He had two pro fights under the name Melody Jackson, somehow losing one by KO, then went amateur again under the name Armstrong.
When he went pro again, it was under the name Armstrong. He lost his next two fights as well.

ok its alleged that he was paid to "throw" fights when triyng to earn a crust as youngster so wanted to dis-associate himself from the "early days".

can see i need to make these more difficult!

I had a quick count up in his 1984 autobiography "The Whitechapel Windmill", I got 62 but there were a few bouts in Canada etc and the book was written in 1984. Dare say there was a few more that weren't listed in the book.
