I can't pinpoint one, but Mustapha Muhammad over Marvin Johnson was one of the most savage body assaults i've ever seen.
Mickey ward vs Sanchez & in the 9th of Gatti 1.

Still one of my favorites was Jorge Barrios' one-punch liver shot that KO'd Janos Nagy in a WBO title fight in 2006

One of my favorite fight-long assaults came from Bazooka Limon when he retook a junior lightweight belt from Rolando Navarrete. Navarrete was ahead on points until the end but Limon just beat him up to the body and Navarrete eventually caved in.

Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
..thought i posted this already...but:
liston almost broke patterson in half with a right hand to the side in their first match...
pat velentino doubled ezzard charles up in their fight...but ezzard came back to score a one punch knockout...
..in their third fight zale hit graziano with a tremendous right hand to the body..actually moved rocky a few inches..
no film as far as i know so i've never seen it, but after his great stand against joe louis, billy conn fought tony zale. he said he intended to slug it out with him but zale gave him a body shot that conn said felt like he had a hot steel rod shoved into his side and said "the hell with this" and decided to box at long range instead.

Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
Fitzsimmons solar plexus punch on Corbett is by far the greatest bodyshot of all time because of the prestige and money that changed hands.
Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
...ben g...dammit..this is a post i'm mad at because i didn't think of it first!!! no question...the greatest body shot ever...it won the heavyweight championship....it brought the words "solar plexus" into the language....it had international significance....and it kept a fully conscious fighter from being able to rise before the count of ten because it was so devastating ...

Fitzsimmons also allegedly punched Jeffries with a clean shot which thrust Jeffries' upper-lip between his teeth, forcing his corner to cut it loose between rounds so he could continue.
Even for his day, Jeffries --- also a great bodypuncher --- was one tough SOB.

Cotto landed a monster one of Foreman this past weekend. Poor guy couldn't defend himself.
Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
...irene---i'm having a hard time visualizing a body punch that would thrust a fighter's teeth between his lips..or is it lips between teeth...or was it just one lip? please clarify at your ear;iest convenience...

Duran lifted Dejesus into the air ala Balboa/Creed. The second and Third fights in that series were body punching exhibitions.

That was Choynski, not Fitzsimmons.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Fitzsimmons also allegedly punched Jeffries with a clean shot which thrust Jeffries' upper-lip between his teeth, forcing his corner to cut it loose between rounds so he could continue.

Speaking of Cotto, the bodyshot landed vs Quintana has its place among the best bodyshots...dajuggernaut wrote:Cotto landed a monster one of Foreman this past weekend. Poor guy couldn't defend himself.
Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
Did Jirov ko Arthur Williams with a one punch bodyshot ?

This is an easy one. One hits the gut with such force that the very wind being forced from the lungs with such monumental power, forces the teeth to thrust forward in a violent manner, nearly pulling them out at the roots, leaving them rather loose and wobbly within the mouth area.

Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
I dont know about greatest bodyshots of all time, but at least in a British ring, I liked Lloyd Honeyghans one shot which destroyed the durable Jorge Vaca in their world title fight. Simon Brown had to put Vaca on the floor half a dozen or so times to quit. lloydy did it it with one shot.
Also I realise there were other punches involved and again it was hardly one of the greatest body punches of all time but hearns left hook to the body on James Shuler

Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
a few i recall
Nate Campbell had kid Diamond all over the ring with a right uppercut to the solar plexus
Arguello had Boza Edwards leaking out of his ass with right uppercuts downstairs, also had Ruben Castillo collapsed on the ropes from right and left hands
has anyone mentioned Cooney - Lyle yet?
speaking of Marvin Johnson above, he buried his left hand so far into Galindez' torso, you expected to see it appearing on the other side having smashed through the spine.

Re: Greatest Bodyshots Of Alltime
the tony zale right hand half a second before a monster left hook v rocky graziano was brutal. mike tyson v michael spinks was an evil punch. julio cesar chavez v edwin rosario; chavez ruined the body. gerald mcclellan knocked out julian jackson with a horrible punch to the side. from memory mike mccallum hit michael watson with some very nasty body punches and knocked people clean out with them. roy jones hit the tough glen wolfe with a monster hook too + paul hodkinson did some damage downstairs and so did steve robinson.
