booth said they'd got plenty of options, from adamek to harrison (who's "in the mix and cannot be ruled out") as well as chagaev and the klitschko brothers, i believe. there's a thread on the current scene.Riddick Blowe wrote:Has ANYONE got ANY update on Haye's plans????

i agree, haye is a special fighter and that his massive gob has talked him into a corner and alienated many fans.clopixolacuphase wrote:To be fair, yeah he lost credibility fighting Manfredo. If I remember right, he was going to fight Glen Johnson provided he got through Clinton Woods, but Woods won and scuppered it. I remember Joe being interviewed after the fight being all grumpy about the result, saying he wasn't that impressed with either of them. Then he fought Bika and Manfredo! When I think about it now, Joe should have fought Woods AND Johnson and his resume would look a lot more credible. I wonder if he ever thinks about that?Autobarn wrote:did calzaghe lose all credibility vs manfredo?boxingchat wrote:David Haye will lose all credibility if he accepts and considers Harrison as a worthwhile opponent.
I'd have more respect if he went out on his shield against Klitschko (Although I personally think he beats Vlad and has a chance agsint Vitali) than beats up and finally liquidates Audley)
This will be almost on a par as Bruno licking old Joe Bugner. Really didn't matter and didn't prove anything other than create an event.
But Calzaghe is a totally different animal to Haye, who has been a relentless self publicist and has made so much noise about wanting to fight the Klitschkos. I mean, if you think about Haye's achievements having had so few fights (4 world title belts at 2 different weights, his impressive KO record etc) he's a pretty special fighter, and to be honest I'm a big fan. But he's really painted himself into a corner. Yes, he could do with fighting a few more heavies to gain experience but unfortunately he can't do that now. He needs to fight Wlad or Vitali next or he looks like he's absolutely full of sh*t. Surely if I can see this, as a bit of a Haye 'fanboy', then surely you can too?
And both Klitschkos are beatable. I really believe that. But like Boxingchat says, even if he loses Audley will be there after wards, and to be honest I'd watch it. But like Mayweather-Pacquiao, the boxing world is bored of waiting for them to make this fight. At least they had credible alternative dancing partners in Clottey and Mosely.
however, the man has plenty of options and as a promoter it might be in his best interests to stage a mega event in britain vs harrison, as it would help cement him as a promotional force.
obviously (at least to me), haye wants vitali, not wlad. but can he not fight, say, harrison AND vitali? just because wlad negotiations failed, doesn't mean vitali negotiations will.
i hope haye makes his mind up and makes a deal with someone soon.

Re: Haye vs Harrison
I don't know why this is a bad fight - Harrison is a European champion and that carries a top 10 rating (with the WBC at least - and before anyone says it doesn't - it does - maybe not for someone like Scott Lawton or Matthew Hatton but a defence or two would bring them into the top 10 - the European is a WBC regional belt so it carries weight with them) and if you look at Ali, Frazier, Holmes, Louis - they didn't fight the baddest asses around. Harrison could do with fighting a top 20 foe as it could be used to sell the fight and make it more marketable but no-one is going to say Harrison is the worst ever challenger for a world heavyweight title - especially the WBA belt.
I think David Hayes next defence should be against a more dangerous foe than Harrison - my choice would be Damian Hucker!
He would take it for 20 grand!
Been inactive though but so had John Ruiz.

"Haye laughs off possibility of Harrison title defence".
That's the line Haye took initially, and it's what he should've stuck to. It's a payday, nothing wrong with that, barring the hit his credibility takes.

Re: Haye vs Harrison
I dont want to see it. Who has Harrison beat to deserve a title shot? Sprott? Prizefighter, were he fought novices? Haye would demolish him within 2 rounds
Re: Haye vs Harrison
So there's no other viable fight out there for him other than Harrison?Autobarn wrote:he also laughed off monte barrett, until he couldn't get a top contender to fight him, and made do.charlieb wrote:"Haye laughs off possibility of Harrison title defence".

Adamek, Arreola, Chagaev, Povetkin, Peter, Chambers, Gomez, Valuev, Solis are all unavailable or unwilling for one reason or another? I mean if there's talk of the fight taking place around November, surely one of those guys (or about a dozen others more deserving than Harrison) could be persuaded?
I can see the financial angle, the casual fan's probably more aware of Harrison than they are of either Klitschko, let alone any of the others mentioned, barring Valuev perhaps. We know better though and shouldn't be expected to consider it 'fair enough' for Haye to squander one of his increasingly rare appearances on the likes of Harrison.
Re: Haye vs Harrison
of course, and the first name you mention - adamek - is probably the best choice, because he's come up from smaller weights like haye where he was a champ and got himself in the heavyweight top 5. i feel adamek has earned a world title shot, after beating chris arreola.
but ppl are just going to call haye a "coward" anyway, if he's not taking on a klitschko. because ppl take all of haye's big talk and anti-klitscko rhetoric literally. haye could fight all those names, adamek, povetkin, solis, and the writers and fans would be opposed to it.
haye is a promoter too, though, and it's in his best interests to sell out a big arena (plus selling loads of PPVs). who else would guarantee as big a British event as Harrison? we know the klits would have to have home advantage and multiple rematch clauses, which could keep haye in germany for more than one fight, and that's if he's successful.

Nice to see some joke posts up....!
Total total waste of time....Haye TKO 1...
Haye only has a couple of fights left if he keeps to his word and i can't imagine he would want Audley to complete his legacy...

Re: Haye vs Harrison
There aren't any fights that will put Haye in a better negoatiating postion than 50/50 split with no options against Wlad (or vit). This is a lesser event and a step down. He had his world title fight followed by a homecoming first defence and the next step as he has not let anyone forget is a unification megafight. Anything else is a second rate replacement. A second fight in a row at home against a boxer he is a dead cert against will lose him momentum.
As i've said here before he should keep Audley for a comeback fight in the quite likely event one of the Klits knocks him out.
I'd have no interest in going to see this fight and i definitely wouldn't buy a PPV. I do wonder how many non-boxing fans would get excited about this.

I wouldn't like to see it because it would be a one sided mismatch & HW championship fights should not be like that.Crease wrote:Would you like to see it?

would audley fight haye for anything less than a heavyweight title?
there is a peculiar fascination for audley - british boxing's hamlet, who seems to be agonising over some inner drama when he should be throwing punches - and haye's paymasters sky sports seem intent to cash in audley's name for all it's worth. they have a clear hard on for harrison - maybe they are pressuring haye?
i think an audley fight would put haye in a great position as a promoter because of the potential for big live gate and big PPV #s. as a fighter, it would allow him to KO a big bloke.
