My vote is Andre Ward hands down. Still undefeated and nobody will even come close to beating him. Ward KO1

I know forums where you would be shot for that opening line.glittermonkey wrote:Other would be the right pick. There have been tons of fighters that eclipse Duran offensively. Tons.
From those named in the poll, he's out in front though. Easily, too.

Mosley didn't fight the top fighters at 135 at the time. Although he did look amazing when he was there.

By my estimation Duran would've hammered Armstrong. Hank was a great fighter but Duran was a naturally bigger guy and Henry charging him throwing punches everywhere would give Duran some bumps and bruises, but it would probably encourage him more than anything because Hank would be in his range all night and get pummeled.

I'm a big proponent of Mosley as a Lightweight --- I actually think this, not Welter, was his prime division --- but you're talking about maybe the deepest weightclass ever for all-time legends. Saying someone is a, "top thirty all-time Lightweight" is equivalent to labelling someone a top ten or twelve Heavyweight, or top fifteen Middleweight, even. It's stacked for legends. Mosley doesn't belong --- not with his competition.
Great fighter, & no better than at 135lbs, IMO, but top-ten all-time for the division? Not on your life.

Duran. But if he went toe to toe in an all out war with Chavez at LW, I'd take Julio.

Why's that? Over-rated though I think Duran is, & as much as a challenge as I know Chavez would present him with, Duran did nearly everything that little bit better.Seamus wrote:Duran. But if he went toe to toe in an all out war with Chavez at LW, I'd take Julio.
Re: who was the better attacker duran, tzsyu or JCC?
If Duran boxed and stayed in his fight plan, I think he'd win a close but clear decision. In a slug out though, I like Chavez's chin and body attack better.

Any answer other than Wlad is absolutely absurd.
No one is aggressive as Wlad.
NO ONE!!!

Duran was better than Chavez at everything. I think there is a solid chance that Duran would make him weep.

Well, let's not go nuts (par for the course with Duran though it may be), Chavez was one tough son of a b!tch --- tougher, IMO, than Duran. No one's quitting here. Duran, however, has the handspeed. He has the raw power. He has the defense. Those are three very steep mountains to climb for Chavez in an out-&-out skirmish, & I don't think he can make up the ground.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Seamus wrote:Duran. Seamus makes an interesting point, though --- Duran could take a lickin' to the ribs, even in winning, because Chavez was almost super-naturally gifted in that department.

Strictly speaking of offensive gifts there is Ray Robinson & Tommy Hearns, then the rest of history.
This is the only thing that needs to be said, frankly, & was so pithy I thought it best to quote it in lieu of a response.

Robinson and Hearns were two of the best, but there are several other guys that are right up there.

No one is quitting here? It would have been a possibility. Both of these tough guys have been known to quit.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Well, let's not go nuts (par for the course with Duran though it may be), Chavez was one tough son of a b!tch --- tougher, IMO, than Duran. JCC's type of fight isn't one I imagine Duran quitting.

In this kind of fight, at the peak of their powers? I don't see it. How shop-worn was Chavez when he first quit, anyway? Ali quit too, you know.Ambling Alp wrote:No one is quitting here? He quit in the second DLH fight. I'd say that's a tad past his prime.Goodnight, Irene wrote: How shop-worn was Chavez when he first quit, anyway?
None of these guys would have called it an early day in their primes, no chance.

Exactly. Irrespective of the outcome, Duran & Chavez would sign off on a Fight To The Finish if need be. Especially Chavez.tzyuforever wrote:He quit in the second DLH fight. I'd say that's a tad past his prime.Goodnight, Irene wrote: How shop-worn was Chavez when he first quit, anyway?![]()

Chavez quit in the Randall rematch, but I don't think he would quit against Duran. He would just get his ass kicked in an exciting, yet one sided fight. Pretty much a replay of Duran/Palomino.

Re: who was the better attacker duran, tzsyu or JCC?
Given the fight is at close-quarters, would you give Chavez any quarter for his outstanding body assault, or is it all just Duran with blazing speed, superior defense, & heavier hands? Following that point, how does Duran's power stack up to Chavez's chin?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Chavez quit in the Randall rematch, but I don't think he would quit against Duran.
