Please list boxers' current titles in ratings
I really enjoy the http://boxrec.com site. However, I'd like to make a suggestion that I think would help to improve the site. Would it be possible to list each of the boxers' current titles next to the boxers' names in the ratings section? Please let me know what you think. Thank you.

What is John's username so I can send the request his way? Thanks.alarmakool wrote:He means there should be a new column on the ratings page that would list Titles held by the boxer. PM John and see what he says. Would clutter up the page a bit for someone who holds multiple titles tho

Re:
It could have a asterisks next to the boxer's name if that boxer is a champion, and then when you click on the boxer's name, it would list what titles that boxer currently holds. It could look something like this:Harley Race, Jr wrote:How? Give us a few examples.
Joseph Chingangu
~ African Boxing Union heavyweight title ~
Evander Holyfield
~ World Boxing Federation heavyweight title ~
Ina Menzer
~ WIBF Women's International Boxing Federation featherweight title ~
~ WBC female featherweight title ~
~ WBO female featherweight title ~
Neven Pajkic
~ Canada heavyweight title ~

One difficulty would be dealing with all the stripping and vacating of titles. That would have to be programmed in as a new feature, otherwise you would have inaccurate data, which is more of a headache than no data at all.

I understand. I thought your website got that information, so that's why I was asking. Thank you for taking the time to answer.Matt wrote:One difficulty would be dealing with all the stripping and vacating of titles. Can't see what purpose it would serve.

What purpose it would serve? As a boxing fan, I like to read about and watch championship boxing matches. It would make it simpler to keep an eye out for title defenses.AntonS wrote:Can't see what purpose it would serve.

There are other features where you can monitor this & most organizations have websites.
Except for 4 majors, no-one really cares about titles, and they are slowly but surely losing their significance.

lets not add to the confusion let ignore the belts hopefully we might have say in elimanating sancationing bodies.
Re: Please list boxers' current titles in ratings
I can easily see the purpose of that suggestion but:
Editors would have to enter more stuff manually. This terrific idea poses the same problem:Matt wrote:One difficulty would be dealing with all the stripping and vacating of titles.
Besides, I advocate this proposal:Emaster wrote:The dates on which reigns began and ended would need to be entered into the database to make that possible.Phoenix wrote:it would be great to be able to enter a date (month/year) & weightclass and have boxrec return the list of beltholders at that moment in time.
Say you needed to know who held the heavyweight belts in Jan '82, or who the other middleweight champs were at the time Jones/Hop fought in '93, etc...

Would it be terribly difficult to add a "Next Scheduled Bout" column to the fighter ratings tables? Contents could be date/venue/opponent/opponent-ranking . The rankings tables (at least as I see them in Firefox) leave plenty of room in terms of width, so I don't think a few extra inches of column width would hurt the page display.
Emaster wrote:The boxers' residences could be replaced by the dates of their next fights and the names of their next opponents. Thus, schedules sorted by BoxRec's ratings would be created.
Re: Please list boxers' current titles in ratings
I guess you're unaware of new 'watch list' feature
The purpose of it, is to monitor boxers' upcoming fight(s).
e.g. Mostyn Niemann http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
Click on "watch" under his profile & his upcoming fight(s) will be listed on your watch list.
To access the list, click on "watch list" on home page.
To unwatch, click on the icon after the date or go into their record/profile & click on "unwatch"
If you list one that hasn't got an upcoming fight atm, when next you check refresh the page.

Re: Please list boxers' current titles in ratings
Writing that "no-one really cares about titles" is a little bit of a generalization and/or an overstatement, because while titles might not mean much to most fans, some of us do care about them. Some fans care only about certain titles, and others care about them all. As far as the 4 major championships go, I do realize that they pull the most weight, but...AntonS wrote:There are other features where you can monitor this & most organizations have websites.

There are two ways one could look at a "world" championship. Either it could mean the top championship in the world (which doesn't exist, because in regards to prestige, there's more than one sanctioning body on equal footing with the others).
The other way to look at a "world" title is a title defended all around the world. In that respect, there's more than one "world" championship organization. I still remember when the WBO wasn't considered a major title, but things have changed with time.
You can ignore the belts if you'd like to, because that is your prerogative, but I will not. I do not want the sanctioning bodies to be eliminated. As far as I'm concerned, the more the better.world ranked wrote:lets not add to the confusion let ignore the belts hopefully we might have say in elimanating sancationing bodies.
I just recently found out about the "follow list" on this site (which is an amazing feature). I just wish there was an option to add titles to the watch list (in addition to the option to add the boxers). That way, if a WBC Mundo Hispano heavyweight title match is ever scheduled, I can rest assured that I would know about it as soon as it is scheduled. I'm not trying to be difficult. I just love championship boxing matches. Thank you.AntonS wrote:I guess you're unaware of new 'watch list' feature

Re: Please list boxers' current titles in ratings
I still think replacing the residences on the ratings page by a "scheduled bouts" column would be intriguing as that way upcoming fights of boxers in any given weight class would be sorted by their BoxRec ratings.

Re: Please list boxers' current titles in ratings
That's not a bad idea, but I do like the boxer's nationality being listed there. Maybe both can be shown, or if not, an asterisk to let it be known that boxer has a scheduled match. Just a thought.Emaster wrote:I still think replacing the residences on the ratings page by a "scheduled bouts" column would be intriguing as that way upcoming fights of boxers in any given weight class would be sorted by their BoxRec ratings.
