George Watson v Temao Dwyer descision???????????

Post by ppb »

Is there any one out there at all apart from Marcus McDonnell who thought George Watson Won last night?
Iv'e used a hundred permutations but still can't see how The ref came to his score.

Ridiculous decision, and sadly ONCE AGAIN nothing will be done about it.

Dwyer was having only his third fight (I think) and must be thoroughly disillusioned with the sport after that. That kind of thing can severely disrupt a boxer's career. Referees should not be allowed to score a fight. Let them concentrate on officiating and allow the judges to score it.

Agreed, a sham of a decision, Watson was absolutely out of sorts. Dwyer looked a crude sort but was clearly doing the MUCH more effective work, landing his hooks and overhand rights at will.

Another dodgy decision on FFN? Starting to see a pattern here lads.

I train with Tamao and spoke to him last night and he was a bit pi**ed to say the least.
plus he only took the fight at a weeks notice so with better notice i think he would do a number on Watson next time.
As has been said, these are young people's careers that are being affected.
Fighters don't want favours, they train hard and know when they've won or when they SHOULD have lost.
It's slightly embarrassing i would imagine to get a decision you don't feel you deserve.
Just hope it doesn't turn Tamao the wrong way. :TU:

Weve seen this happen so many times before when the clear loser gets the decision. Watson absolutely knew he had lost and was as surprised as we were when the ref lifted his arm. It makes you think what is the point of boxing if the better man doesnt win. It was pretty even but I gave Dwyer the edge going into the final round. The KD should have been enough to give Dwyer at the very least a 2 point advantage and I cant see it any other way. This sort of thing does nothing for the sport of boxing and can turn fans away. I wouldnt blame any new fan saying boxing is like WWE where the winner is determined before the fight starts. Tyson McD was one of the worst decisions ever made. Lets hope the winner wins this time in the rematch.

Its on his record as a loss which is a diabolical injustice to the lad but he knows he won, and we know he won, so please tell him Jamie not to lose heart. Thank God there are refs like Howard Foster, Ian John Lewis etc who are fair and honest men and know their job.

this is a disgrace
Marcus McDonnell should be disgusted with himself
The key point is that these wrong decisions are NOT random
They only happen to the less favoured/non-house fighter
Marcus McDonnell should be charged with bringing the sport into disrepute

Watson punched the canvas after Dwyer put him down in the last round. So even expected he had lost.

Joke of a decision.

This is a bit harsh, I only watched the first 2 rounds and got a bit bored and fast forwarded through as I'd recorded FFN!

But to say that other refs are fair and honest(which I believe 99% are) is simply insinuating that Marcus McDonell is not, which I think is unfair.

In my opinion he is a good ref(Like 99% of the rest are) and a decent fella from what I see of him. Last night may have been a bad one - As I said I haven't yet watched it all, but a difference of opinion or human error doesn't necessarily mean he is a cheat, unfair and dishonest :TU:

marcus mcdonell is a good ref but a terrible judge, he's indicisive & allways massively leans to the house fighter.

The fight was scored 57-56.
It was read out by Gary Logan incorrectly

Did better than me- I just zoomed to the end! Probably quite a good fight, but the format doesn't hold my attention. Bouts like this would be great live warm ups before the main event.

That wouldn't surprise me as he is not the best announcer...........however, I've watched it again and the ref boesn't blink an eyelid when the score is read out as 59-56

Not professional to pull up the MC mid announcement to correct him.
I watched the fight on Saturday morning after a tel call to check it out. (Watched up to Jefries fight live)
I'm confident Marcus would have scored it:-

9-10
10-9
10-9
10-9
10-9
8-10

57-56

Watch again and post which rounds you strongly disagree with. (Sound off please)

I was fuming after the decision was given that Watson was the winner! Total farce- it was clear Dwyer was landing the better puches all the way through and the knockdown was a belter!. Something should be done about it.

What a bad / poor decision. It really is a Mugs game at the bottom end. Sorry to say it i love the game but that is wrong when a young boxer trains hard and sacrafices his time and effort to get the shit end of the stick.

Too right. Poor old Logan is no Jimmy Lennon Jr.

He cocks up his lines consistently. I prefer the Elvis impersantor.

Got to be honest this is getting kind of bad, its happening on a pretty consistent level and when it happens so much you do wonder if its just a mistake or perhaps something worse.

It would be interesting if Buncey could get some of the refs on his show to perhaps explain some of there decisions, he would not want for choice as there are quite a few to choose from.

I have never believed in bad mouthing people by name on here so I won't start now but it does need addressing and the thing is when some of our refs go abroad the refeering clearly favours the home fighters as well more often than not and again the examples are clear in my head but for embarrassment purposes I am not going rattle the list off.

There seems to be no answer to this as it has been going on for the 40 years I have been watching the game and if I am being brutally honest seems to be getting worse.

One scoring judge i.e the ref don't work and three can't cut it, would be madness to extend it as the same thing would happen. Its incredible really that nothing ever seems to get done, we get the odd rematch ordered in a title fight but thats as far as it goes and as another poster pointed out, the lad here don't get an automatic rematch as to the board its a nothing fight but to him it meant the world no doubt.

I love my sport I really do but find it hard to defend it to the casual fan who questions me about this sort of thing.

I would not expect him to pull up the MC, but I would expect to see a quizzical look on his face having heard the score read out so wrong.
